I am doing some R&D i have been wanting to build a roadster to race on the salt and I really need some direction on the rollcage. If any of you have ideas, tricks, or guidlines i would appreciate the help. Also if you have any pictures of approved rollcages those would be great. Thanks for any help.
first get a rulebook, from http://www.scta-bni.org/ There are lots of pics of salt cars on the internet
As said in the post above GET A RULEBOOK! A 2010 rulebook. Not last years or anytime before that. Rules change yearly. I'm a bike guy so I'm not overly familiar with roadster rules. I do know that for all new builds the driver will be required to have a head restraint device. Also hang out at landracing.com You can ask questions and get answers. When you start your build post it in the build diaries on landracing. You'll get a lot of info and guiidance if you post your progress. Plus when you get your rulebook there are names of people in it that you can contact and ask questions and get RIGHT answers. The roll cage dimensions will be listed in the new rule book. The other thing you need to be careful of is going to Bonneville. It is exremely addictive and there is no known cure. Gen Barrett was infected in 1953 and he's been back every year. Good luck with your build.
Hey! You're relatively close by. Feel free to stop by the shop and We'll be happy to go through your questions, show you how and why we did our car, and review the rulebook in relation to your ideas. Drop me an e-mail and we can arrange a time. Chaz
best advice ever ... get a rule book ... 2010 SCTA is just out and available ... take a look at the records and look for what interests you ... A lot of guys want 200 mph for the club ... remember this is a disease not a hobby ... and corrective stated there is no none cure ... Joe
When I built my first LSR car there were some things I just couldn't get my head around in the rule book. In fact that is still true. That's why I was going to recomend you find a nearby roadster racer and look at what he has done. Or you could look at a tank. Check out the Fast Four.com web page for a Montana roadster.
Thanks for mentioning our site Rich! There's pictures of the rollcage in various states of completion under the ch***is page. www.fastfourspecial.com
Tony, How about a fast four T shirt for a fellow Dodge brother? That should P off the club. And good luck in your new venture Kalispellkid.
Follow the advice about getting on landracing.com . Lots of people with the know how and the expierance there. Plus that, they are the friendliest people I've come across in a long time! C U on the Salt!
