The Delahaye... The red car is a '38 I think. Not sure about the black and white one. But the artdeco design is unbelievable. Someone needs to take a stab at hammering one of these badboys out in their garage. Can you see one of these runnin' a Nailhead or Caddy mill? Cadillac sombrero hubcaps would work well with the design... I'd even put the thing on airbags, just to plant the fenders in the dirt when parked!!!! I know about Boyd's "What-the-Haye"... but it comes NOWHERE close to the beauty of the original cars....
There was a history of the Delahaye on SPeed the other night. Look for BEHIND THE HEADLIGHTS. Cool show, great vintage racing.
Yeah Tman I caught the end of that show and they showed just a peek of the red car... so I HAD to do a search on the web to find it. It's amazing what the early coach builders could do!!!
From the Imperial Palace, Las Vegas They have a Talbot Lago too! I fell in love with the simplicity of this one when I saw it: 1950 Veritas Meteor Formula 2
Oh, no! Now alla yew uncouth bastids are gonna learn about the coolest looking cars EVER made. Its inevitable that someone will show you the Talbot-Lago next. http://www.michaelfurman.com/docs/gal_5.html http://www.web-cars.com/pbeach/Talbot_Lago/ http://www.ritzsite.net/Loo1999/14_Loo99.htm http://www.cl***ics.com/pbbch00.html http://www.velocityjournal.com/jrnl/1938/vmd2851ov.html ]http://www.ktsmotorsportsgarage.com/rodeo98/pages/talbot2.html http://www.vintageweb.net/ccpa/pbtalb.htm
That show on The SPEED channel about that "Le Million" winning Delahaye compe***ion that Rene Dreyfue won was great.Years ago when I worked at a restoration shop Rene would stop by once a year. True gentleman, very polite and friendly, it was great to see him get into a GP Bugatti, I often wondered what memories that would bring back. There is a book "My Two Lives" that is a biography of his life written by Beverly Rae Kimes. Most of the photos used on the TV show are in the book.
One more unusual French car It's a 37/38 Darl'Mat, owned by a local collector who has lot's of unusual cars (at least for here). Alan Cerf
Check out http://www.petersen.org/default.cfm?docid=1028 These cars are on display right now at the museum. Pretty amazing pieces, the pics don't do them justice...Their like rolling sculpture!
my dad is replicating the delage D6 -80 coupe from 1936-only one was made and it disappeared in the sixties, handformed alloy body, streamliner styling, its being recreated from old photos and ch***is drawings, amazing car, i'll show you all one day.... heres the original competing at le mans 1937.
Not a Delahaye, but i really like that sculpeted roadter that Edsel Ford build back in the 40's i believe. that is a way cool car.
That first one posted, the red one, is about as beautiful of a car as I have EVER seen. I don't think any of the others on this thread measure up to that one car.
That first one is a 1938 Delahaye Type 165, Ch***is 60744. It's the only one of its kind. I'd guess that you're probably less impressed by Delahaye than you are by the coachwork by Figoni & Falaschi and other French automobile designers. For more information, check out the book called "From P***ion to Perfection," available from this website: http://www.adattoauto.com/ And you're right, skips***ch, that the "What-the-Haye" doesn't come close to capturing the beauty of the original cars. --Matt
The Delahaye was possibly one of the most beautiful cars ever made. About a year ago I read where Elton John actually owned a couple of them, and used them to drive around. Say what you want about his music or whatever, but that *****y queen drives in style.
You should all come to Mr RATBOY'S neighborhood when the Monterey Historic Races/Pebble Beach Concours is going on. You need to hear a Talbot Lago GP car in full song and see it at speed, or see a bunch of Bugattis and Delages and Delahayes just driving around town. French coachbuilding was really amazing. I also strongly suggest everyone go to the Blackhawk museum if you are ever in the greater SF bay area.....
[ QUOTE ] Delahaye is on my short list of cars I would give my left nut to own. [/ QUOTE ] You better hope your left nut is worth quite a bit... http://www.cavecreekcl***ics.com/ads/adindex.asp?id=96 -r
