I have a 1951 chevy 2dr that I am attempting to rebuild. I need some help tho... Here are some questions I have... What are the best after market leaf springs to use. I am running a 81 Trans am rear end.? How do i make sure the rear end is centered correctly?
I don't know who makes the best kits, but I do know that they design them so that the rear axle is centered. That is, centered in the wheel-wells. As far as side to side, the spring-pads have to be welded in position to match the springs. I believe there is an axle or two that match right up...somebody here will know. If you have to reposition the spring-pads, don't forget to match the pinion-angle to the out-put shaft of the trans.
i just bought a 51 chevy, and everything that i have read thus far says a rear end out of a 68-72 nova would work, and i guess the pads line up fairly decent, with the execption of the differenc in width between the stock leaf springs, and the pad.
Yeah, The camaro/trans am rear also work width wise. I am looking for diffretn leafs tho. The stock f body leafs make the car sit way too high. Since I am going to buy new leafs I was wondering if there was another set that would work better for me
Walton makes springs for after market rear ends. I have a 51 hrdtp with a 1983 capriece rear end . New leafs with all the hardware and new mounts/shocks for about 500 dollars. They are the chevy 49-54 rear leaf spring people.
