sure would make it a lot easier to build up a car from scratch and ***le it as the year we want it to be. maybe it covers enough that we wouldn't have to scrounge to find a vintage ***le anymore.
May 5th is today... izzit too late to contact the House Transportation Committee? (Which sounds more like they are moving mobile homes....but anyway...)
It has p***ed stage 2. "Bill reported out of House committee on Transportation with vote of 7 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Present Not Voting, 4 Absent." On to the Texas house.
H.B. 2412 provides specific registration/***ling cl***es and license plates for street rods and customs, including replicas. Street rods are of a pre-1949 vintage; customs are of the post-1949 era. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.. THIS SOUNDS GOOD.. BUT THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS..
I just recieved a answer back from a letter I sent to my state Rep ( Rick Hardcastle) saying he will support the bill when it comes to a vote in the House. I wrote him reminding him of the 1.5 million $$ income Vernon gets on the weeknd we have the cruise (Summer's Last Blast), and how this bill will help get more cars and people(=money!) here. I think it will help solve all the ***le BS we have to go through, but am wary of the Government doing us any "favors".
You need to watch where the money goes. In this case it's being reported to the Budget Board as a potential loss. http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/81R/fiscalnotes/html/HB02412I.htm
Track it here and you can see the changes if any. http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup/Text.aspx?LegSess=81R&Bill=HB2412
So I'm not thrilled about having a license plate on my car that says 'Streetrod' on it. I think I'll just stick to YOM plates.
Well, all the other states seem to want us to line our cars up at the crusher, so I think this looks like a difference in that opinion by Texas. Depending on what got this bill started. Here in Ohio, we have had "Historical" plates for a long time. They are permanent, and they are about 30 bucks. I think they actually have a 30 or 50 year expiration. Good luck with it, and I hope it is not a wolf in sheeps clothing.
Some things I'm seeing here is the ability to ***le a handbuilt car or a reproduction/replica car as the year of vehicle it mostly resembles. What I wonder, though, is would this make it easier to ***le a vehicle that was purchased without a ***le? Especially something like a gennie Model A body on repop rails, etc?
I would be ok with registering our cars more often, as long as the "replica/historical" part of the bill stays in tact. I would also like to see the personlized plates be available to our cars. That would generate some income for the state. As far as the state highway fund, lets support the bill that Kay Baily Hutchinson introduced that lets Texas keep its highway money in Texas, and not send it to Wash DC.
I've been all over Europe, seen half of South America, and a lot of North America. My brotherinlaw lives in Santa Maria,I've been up and down the PCH half a dozen times, and I can't wait to get back into Texas each time. There is no place in the world like Texas. No place better
It did make it to the 2nd revision of the house, and then was tables. So its still alive, but going very slowly. Donnie
