Let us know how you did it? Are there dropped spindles? I saw in one post you can order dropped springs. if you bag em do you need a big notch? Do they need a body drop to lay? Share some of your experiences on these cars please...
Mine has airbags and it pretty much sits on the ground. A previous owner put the bags in. I actually want to put some bump stops to keep it off the ground in the event of another airline failure(luckily it happened in my driveway). The front anti-sway bar was removed to get it this low; that will be going back on. The front shocks were re-located as well. As far as notching the rear frame rails, I never checked.
Does it bottom out on the frame in the back? or is the frame on the ground? Any other static drop folks?
We cut the spring on my friends' 65. She said it actually rides better than at stock height. I believe JAMCO sells lowering springs for them. Still digging your Econoline........
Thanks So Cal.... I should have a 63 rivi week after next to add to the stable...tryn to dig up as much info as i can find.... Hows she like her rivi?
Never seems to bottom out, but I lift it quite a bit when driving. I haven't spent much time at all under the car; I re-did the upholstery however. I plan to look it over real good before the Roundup, make sure it's safe for a six hour round trip. I'll take some pictures under there.
we bagged a 63 with air ride technologies sits pretty much on the ground with no notching in the back at all and rides great. we had to cut aliitle on the front a-arms because of the bag mounting. sway bar is still on and this car is very nice. the kit was not all that much either. their stuff is the way to go all the geometry is all built in. works like a charm.
i was just looking in our inventory and we actually have a complete kit to bag a rivy. front shockwaves 5 gallon tank and compressor with ride pro e2 in stock sitting on the shelf. we will take $1500.00 for the whole kit! we have had this thing for a liitle while!
my 63 is bagged using air ride technologies. the previous owner bagged it and made a mess out of the wiring. i am currently trying to fix all of that. The frame isn't notched and i lay frame but it still seems too high. i almost want to channel it to get it to sit lower unless there is another solution that i don't know about.
I have 3" dropped springs, no bags. Car handles way better than stock and rides pretty good too. It's not laying on the ground, but there's only about four inches under the crossmember, I wouldn't go any lower (on Ohio roads). I'm pretty happy with it the way it is. Check out Coil Spring Specialties in Kansas City. I've only dealt with them the one time, but they were great. Tell them exactly what you want (height, ride quality), reasonable price, and if I remember correctly they were on my doorstep in about a week.
erock, She loves her Rivie. She has it apart, doing some shaving and getting ready for paint. There is a album with a few pictures in my profile. Look forward to seeing pictures of the 63 when you get it.
Bagged my 63 with airride kit...pretty much a bolt on with a little cutting on the arms...sway bar remained intact...handle pretty darn good...I too kept mine aired up pretty well for cruising and dropped it once it was parked and darn near layed frame. Traded it last week and now I am on the lookout for another one...gone less than a week and I already miss it
i've recently sold kits to several guys to bag their Rivis. haven't done one myself yet but would like to own one. they all opted for the bag over shocks in the front. everyone of them that has theirs installed so far is very happy with it and i do not believe they had to do any notching what so ever in the rear... Richard D: you should take a real good look at the air line routing on your car. sounds like a careless install to me. air lines rarely (if ever) just fail for no reason. usually they are to close to a heat source or they are rubbing against something. since you did not do the install yourself i would go through it from one end to the other and look it over real good. make sure it is DOT approved line as well. it should be marked as such.
It was a real ****ty install. The failure was from a piece of br***(!) line directly in front of the front crossmember. It was punctured, we but a **** joint connecter in there just to get it mobile; I bought 40' of new line from a truck stop so we can re-plumb it.
Found a 65 at Goodguys scottsdale I wanna buy. More complete car but more money...anywho. I will post up pics tonight if today goes well...
