So I bought a sweet set of caps with 2" bullets, and a set of ribbed 15" beauty rings for my Poncho...I was told that they would fit the old style Corvette rims that I'm running...Anyway, the problem I'm having is the caps hit on the grease cap, and I can't push them on. They are shallow caps that the bullets screw to with a bolt in the center. They are not at all like the original style which is open, and held on with 4 bolts around the edge...I'm just wondering how I can make these work? They will work fine on the back, but since she's lowered and runnin skirts, you won't see them anyway...I really need to find a solution for this....any help or suggestions would be awesome....at least the ribbed rings look great....Thanx
Will they fit of you remove the dist cap? If so, with the dust cap off, put some clay on the end of the spindle, put your center cap on and then remove the center cap and measure how this the clay is on the spindle. Now take your dust cap, cut it down and weld it back together so it is shallower than the thickness of the clay. Put the dust cap on, and install you center caps. If they hit with the dust caps removed...that will take some pictures and some more thought. Let us know...
Without the dust cap on, they still hit the end of the spindle. I'm going to try to get a different type of bullet if we can't come up with a solution...another way to go, but I think looks stupid, is to drill a hole in the center of the original Corvette caps and install the bullet...would look weird with the flutes on the original...
you'll prob have to go with these ,more money but they fit...googled this under corvette bullet cap........good luck
Well, how far does it have to go to be seated, when it hits the spindle? I do not know what kind of clearance you have on the tire to fender, but could you put a spacer behind the wheel? Just another thought...
a little more info? what kind of spindles/year.some of those early gm spindles were r-e-a-l-l-y long,so i could see where it might hit. you might try useing a spacer behind the wheel. not all like that, but you could use washer to see how thick of a spacer, not to run repeat do not run the washers.if spacer don't work, well as posted above, deeper bullit cap. hope this helps.
I too have run into this problem before with GM ralleys. My fix was to cut or grind off about 1/4"- 3/16" off the end of the spindle (not too close to the cotter key) and shorten My dust caps. It worked for me !!
