I picked up a new project today. Does anyone know what it is? It has some distinctive features. Four door hinges, some of them twist. The windshield post where it meets the cowl is curved a lot (towards the bottom). One belt line until the back of the cab, where it has two. Also the inside of the door has more steel then I would expect of a car this old. Any ideas?
My first thought was Maxwell...then Cadillac occured to me, there are no mfr id tags anywhere at all? You'll have to get on line and just start looking at pictures of old sedans...hopefully yours was made here...if it's European...more research dj
'23-'24 Essex Coach: suicide doors, four door hinges, one belt line 'til back of cab. I found photos in Floyd Clymer's "Those Wonderful Old Automobiles" I googled and found a 1921, 1923 and 1924 Essex 2 dr sedans that match what you have. Google "1921 Essex sedan" and you'll get a good photo of a red and black one.
That's what I was thinking also...there was a '28 4-door Essex on EBay a while ago, but similar cowl and rear panels (didn't Essex later become Hudson??)
That was my first thought as well, but I knew that wasn't exactly right. I have a '24 Essex and the bottom of the windshield is flat. Also the hinges don't twist. I think 1924 is going to be close though.
Looks lika early twenties essex to me but what do i know, not much just ask my seventeen year old son!
My first impression is Essex, not sure of the year. That sharp bend at the transition of the back is similar to this '26.
