Well maybe I can get this done correctly this time. Went to look at a Y- today. The owner said he took it from a '57 P.U. Found the ECG casting letters by the distributor. Yep "57 272. Could not find the head casting letters to save my A*#! Looked between the exhaust ports, under them everywhere externally. Not a ECZ-G to be found. However, we did find the number/letters 6BV. Now just what in the world do those mean? I have exhausted my resources trying to find out what they are. Checked here and on the web by googling. Am I overlooking it? Please someone help me out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in advance. Fenderless.
I have not a clue what your number is. http://ford-y-block.com/cylinderheadchart.htm All though anything is possible after all these years, a ECG block(272 dearborn MI cast) from a 57 truck should of had G heads. I don't know if you know, but at the front of the motor, follow the intake runner into the head. On the head, below the intake ports is a ledge that faces down, check for your Casting #'s there.
If I remember right, the casting number is on the intake side, kind of between the valley pan and intake. The right head should be towards the back and the left head towards the front. Little mirror helps, lay it on the valley pan and look back up towards the head, I'll check mine tomorrow to be sure if you want, SPark
Hey thanks guys, Maybe I just plain missed it! I looked everywhere on that thing. The owner said it very few miles on it, which i realize don't really mean anything, maybe it was a rebuild? I've seen the "tags" on them stating they were rebuilt, nothing like that either. This has got me puzzled. He doesn't want much for it, $75.00, maybe ishould just go get it, tear it down clean it up, then look. ??????? Fenderless
For $75 I'd buy it. Look under the water outlet on the head where it meets the manifold for the head casting. the # you posted is just a lot # for a Dearborn casting, your block is a Dearborn casting also with the ECG by the dizzy. Those heads have the small letter ECZ-G, if that's what they are, so look carefully.
