Yeah, police cars and also fire trucks and ambulances
sometimes too. They use them in place of the normal
5 3/4 inch high-beams, usually hooked up to a flasher.
Beside amber and red, blue ones are available too

Check your local laws, red on the front of non-emergency vehicles is not legal most places. I've seen them on the front of police and fire trucks but they also had a white front headlight for normal use.

Early school buses, I believe, also used headlights with red lenses for alternating warning lights.

We put red head lights on one of our cars and we did not even hit the road before the cops "let us know" that we are not to drive on the streets with them. Only time I got stopped in a car that was not even driving. If you want to see a cop REALLY pissed put those ****ers on and go for a spin

Those lights that flash red at railroad crossings, used to be 7" red sealed beams, there prolly LEDS or something lame like that now days though.

I wouldn't recommend running them on the street.

The earlier ones were 8 inch..The current AAR approved ones are 12 inch.
They use a special 10 volt 18 watt bulb.

When I had my old ambulance I was told by a cop that only emergancy vehicles are allowed red lights in the front and blue lights anywhere. He made me put covers on my lights.

I got the idea from old pro stock pictures from 71 for colored head lights. I just painted mine blue. I've yet to see if the five-O disapprove.
