Saw a few older topics with folks clipping a second Gen camaro front clip on. I have a 1986MonteCarloSS front clip offered to me for free. Real Real nice shape. Actually he's giving me the car as a roller I'll have everything whole 9 yards.

Question is, Has anyone used a GBODY clip under the trucks? IF so a few pics would give me an idea how far to stuff the clip under etc. Where you put it to the frame...Dads got an old Apache needs attention but I don't want to slam the front front too too much that it rides like ****. I've done 4 door crew cab dually's w/ 6/8 drops and rear c notch's and flip kits before, I could tolerate it but Pops....Not so much. lol. Thinking if I do a Gbody clip and drops the front 7 maybe a 6" flip in the back and helper bag it for comfort out back, HOW DO THESE THINGS RIDE up front? 396bbc, th400, and 12bolt. Thanks for the help in advance.

nobody has done a gbody front clips swap?????

  3. Most of the G Body parts interchange with S-10 parts. I am not sure about track width. Best bet is to take out a tape measure and compare them. As for not going too low, just set the truck frame rails to the same height as the top of the cars frame at the top of the kick up...just behind the spring pockets.

Similiar to what he said, the G's are 58 inchs outside to outside, S-10's 55 inchs.

I don't want to go grab this car if it won't work??? Can someone give me an idea if it will? Thanks. I didn't really want to cut and narrow the crossmember if its too wide, I could just keep looking for a second Gen. But free is Free... think it will work or what?

Bird, I have measured g body,s10,2nd gen camaro, 1st gen camaro,73/77 monte's, and a whole bunch of others...
In my experience, the 2nd gen camaro is the best fit for 55(2nd series ) to 59 chevy pickup..
I dont remember the exact ***le of the thread, camaro clip in a day..or something like that..
    Very informative !!
    Good luck
    Dave

Found it...' TECH, camaro clip in your 58 chevy - in one day.."

so I wonder if the 58" vs 61" leaves me wondering if the turn radius will be effected 3" is quite a bit narower really 1 1/2 per side. Hmmmmm I'll check that article, read a few maybe I missed that one. Thanks.

70 to 81.....There were some late 69's with an endura (rubber ) front bumper. Some say that was a 70, and 2nd gen was 70 and 1/2....some say the rubber front bumper was 69 and 1/2.....
What ever...You want a front steer clip.. first gen was rear steer.

It does not affect the turning radius. It will clear the fenders better if real low.

wow that is sweet. I wasn't going for a that low style but I do dig it.
This is my second Gen 81 camaro I am familiar with low and the front end. I wish I had one given to me, but I can grab this monte...I'm going to keep digging cause I Think it would work pretty darn well also under the truck.

I'll try one more time. I've clipped several 55 to 59 Apache trucks. I've clipped with first gen Camaro, I've clipped with second gen Camaro, I've clipped with 78 to 87 G body (Monte). If the truck is super low the first gen Camaro, or Monte work better, because on turns the tires don't rub on the fenders, even with 8" rims. At the firewall they are all the same width, 37"

Thank you sir. I'm on the way to Ct. this weekend to pick up my donor clip then. Appreciate your time.
When you do the swap, What size tire you you typically run up front? And do you have a pic of a truck you've done at a distance so I can see the stance and ride height? Thanks a million.

It all depends on how you cut it. On mine, with 235 15 tires, it sets at 5" to the rocker panels. I did one last year that has truck tires all the way around, and sets near stock height. I do each one as the owner wants it.

When clipping a 55-59 chevy truck you can use a second gen. camero, but 6 inch wide wheels will be max if lowered. I like to run at least a 7 inch wide wheel on a lowered street truck of this size. And of course back spacing on your wheels has alot to do with it. What ever you decide on be sure and read everything you can on how to do it. You sure don't want to have things out of square or out of level after it's welded.

front end is a 1988 monte carlo super sport. I saw someone write up to 87 is this front so much different? I don't know the differences maybe width? Thanks

  21. As long as it's rear wheel drive, you are good to go.
I thought 88 was the first year of FWD...Heck, it looks like I'm starting to forget more than I knew in the first place.

Its a rear wheel drive original v8 car has discs and pwr steering. Just wondered if the widths were the same? Hate to cut this frame I may be able to sell if its too narrow or too wide. THX

I have a 58 that has a 77 Monte Carlo front end and also used the rear end. It's within 1/4" of the original 58 width. I drives great. I am running 16x8" rims with no offset and have no problems with fender clearance. I did not do the clip. This clip requires someone that really knows that they are doing, because the clip is cut at a 90 angle and ****ed to the frame with plates and gussets. The guy that did mine had done several before and did a great job. The job was so good you cannot tell where the frame was joined. I looks factory made. A good front clip to look for is the Trans-Am from around 77-78. The Trans-Am's and some of the Camero's had the larger swap bars. I know because, I have two of them, that I have not used. They slip right under the 58 frame and lower the front end in the process.
