I'm not a pro nor a good amateur, just knew some guys in high school into cars, so listen to other people before me.

I saw it done successfully ONCE and screwed up a couple more times. The one successful time the guy put masking tape down the outside of the stripe, and used rubbing compound and did it entirely by hand. The failures all involved power tools or solvents.

Any chance the stripe is under a clearcoat? If its painted on you might be able to lay some tape on each side of the stripe and sand and repaint the stripe but it will never match the original color.

goo off works perty good you can get it any store in the cleaning isle

  5. It all depends if it's been cleared over. If not you can probably wet sand it with 2000 grit and buff it off. If it is under the clear the only option is to repaint it a color you like or shoot the whole panel.

  6. only problem is if its older paint job the color under the stripe most likley wont match the color of the rest of the car of atleast thats what I've noticed when guys have taken off stripes

Easy Off Oven cleaner will remove 1 shot lettering & Pinstriping. Ive taken factory stripes off of cars up through the 90s with it. I have a buddy who took lettering off of a 70 pontiac race car with it. Do a test patch before you try the main surfaces. You will still see the stripe after it is removed, but once its wet sanded and buffed, it will be gone.

Pics would help too. If no clear and if the original is not laquer paint, I would try laquer thinner first.

i agree i have used easy off let it set for like 5 mins and strat in with a healthy amount of elbow grease ive used micro compond leveler also which is like liquid sand paper and i ve also used 1500 grit wet dry sand paper to a 2000 grit an so on but this will require buffing after ... but the main thing to do with any of these to us caution it can go wrong and if its under clear coat then your going to have to wet sand and reshoot the clear then buff

p.s. ive done all of these and good luck

If you just swipe the corners of the blade on concrete before you use it it is a lot more forgiving.

I just removed some existing pinstriping and then re-striped it in a different color . I wet sanded w/ 1200, then 2000, followed by a buffer and compound then a foam pad with some machine glaze . No problems at all .

I used a rubber sanding drum on a boat I had. I picked it up from an automotive paint store....looked like a round, yellow eraser disc that fit into my drill on a chuck.........turned it on and hit that gay ass striping without ruining the paint below.

    Bada bing.

Take off the lettering while you're at it.

Easy off works great mask both sides of the stripe it can screw up the paint in left too long you might try a pumis stone. Automotive paint supply store will have them for removing runs. It's a hard stone not a clay bar just be careful with it on panels with alot of curve

Easy Off Oven Cleaner works great if: The stripes are not under the clear and/or it's not laquer!!!! It will totaly screw it up if it is.

Enamel Reducer will work fine. Use a terry cloth rag, has some tooth to it. If it's old one shot, than it has lead in it. REALLY hard to remove. Newer one shot is no where near as tuff. Good luck.
