That's sad to hear. The last time I talked to him was at the Henderson NC show a couple years ago. He had one of his last Funny Cars on display. A super nice guy. RIP Shirl.

I enjoyed meeting Shirl Greer several years ago at E'Town's Funny Car Reunion event... On our (DRU's) Funny Car Reunion Raw DVD, there's a beautiful close-up shot of Shirl, smiling, sitting in his Mustang, being pulled through the staging lanes... Shirl was quite a character-- I also remember he had a colorful crew guy with him, unfortunately I don't recall the crew guy's name, but those two guys were lots of fun to be around-- I could never quite understand why some of the nostalgia internet snerts didn't have any respect for those guys-- Just don't seem right, oh well-- They were very nice to me... Shirl Greer dressed himself for the FCR like famed Hawaiian lounge singer, Don Ho, with a "loud" printed ****on shirt (a shirt that was even louder than most of the event's Funny Cars!)... As many of you already know, Shirl won the NHRA Funny Car Championship in 1974, so there's no denying that he had "chops" as far as his driving skills go... Shirl's "Chained Lightening" cars always looked sharp-- I absolutely adore the paint schemes of those 'Stangs-- A very eye-pleasing design-- Very creative... My sincere condolences to his family... I believe that many ******** drag racing fans will remember Shirl Greer for a long time-- I know that I certainly will... We're going to miss him... Diana
