Any intrest in Fiberglass 32/33/34 Truck Doors?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by CTFuzz, Mar 13, 2010.

  1. We are tossing around the idea of making reproduction fibergl*** doors for these great trucks. I have a '34 Ford truck and I'm still welding on my doors.....! I know "fibergl***" isn't a HAMB friendly word, but these doors are impossible to find without rust.
I know I'm gonna be sorry I asked but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,What do you think?

I'm sure there would be interest, maybe not a lot from this specific group, but there's lots of others that wouldn't worry about 'gl*** doors. You might even think about making a "stretch" door, a few inches longer than stock, to make the cabs alittle more comfortable.

  4. Thanks for the kind words John, It was great meeting you and your dad. Post some pictures as you progress with your project.

We are thinking of making stock style doors only, a body may follow..........

I think the supply is just about exhausted, so now would be the time. I can't see that it would be very easy project for you, however. Like all doors, they have compound curves & are complex, taking into account all of the window channel, window winder & door opener/lock attaching points. How close to an original were you thinking? After all is said & done, would you be able to produce it for a realistic retail price?

  7. I don't see it as being any more difficult than a '32 coupe door and we make them all the time.................but you never know untill you try.

No, it wouldn't be any more difficult than the '32 door, but the ultimate end price of a '32 coupe & a 32-34 truck is substantial, so I don't know if potential customers would be willing to pay a proportional price. That being said, I think you should go for it & see where you're at with the prototype. I went through absolute living hell to bring my **** *** doors back from the from the grave. If I had to do that again, I'd think seriously on paying a premium for new doors. And, as long as the end product was reasonably accurate, I wouldn't let the fibergl*** thing bother me in the least.

You should make 2 styles ,Stock and a 4inch chop.Ct Some pics are at my profile under my dads rides Today hes working on the front suspension ,He 's hanging the spring off of the wishbones .I think the terminology is spring behind .I havent been helping him that much ,So the father and son project turned into his project ,Ill give him a hand when he needs it .

32-34 truck doors are getting to be the holy grail. Although panels can be bought, nobody makes a full door skin of any material. Thats why my 34 has gl*** rear fenders. Make em'. They will make my totally useless frames useful again!

I find it unusual that no one has done it by now anyway. There is a market for them.

I'd be interested I'm still welding on my doors too.

  21. sounds good to me, I could buy your gl*** ones and sell my rusted bottom original ones to one of the "purest" on here.

Yeah, it might help bring prices down to a reasonable level on some of the original rusty ones.

  24. Thanks for the input guys................I have a line on some very nice doors we can borrow, may not be for a few months before we get them in any kind of working form, we have a few new projects that need to be done first.

x2. I'm about to begin restoring my '33 doors. Not in terrible shape, but I wouldn't mind the option of gl*** doors to tempt me.
