Special timing chain, hole in timing cover, relocate radiator to trunk, should fit just fine! If you make it a 3/4 cam instead of the full race it is now it won't stick out as far!
Now that Cams gots it goin on. You just can't put something that big in. Unless that midget engines name is Bridget.
Depends. What 283? Plans for use? Compression ratio? what heads? what induction? Specs of cam? Come on Groucho we need more details. Will this be for the g***er coupe?
Did you get that at the 99 cent store as well? was it really only 99 Cents? Or Just the shoe??? If you need the other 99Cents for the right shoe I got you!
Well hell no it's not too big. Just cut to fit the 283...keep the rest for a future project. You ought to get 21/2 maybe three engines out of that camshaft. Maybe sell the rest to one of the flathead gurus here on the board.
That's a bulk cam for engine builders. To save costs, the manufacturers would send extra-long cams to machine shops. The machine shop would count off the number of lobes they needed (flat-head 6, flathead V8, 4-banger, Buick 8, etc.), slap it into their power hacksaw (this was before horizontal band saws), come back in 20 minutes and the cam was cut to length and ready to have the drive gear brazed on one end, and the distributor gear brazed on the other (if so equipped). Back in the '30s, that was the difference between paying $.35 per lobe for a "finished" cam from the manufacturer, and $.20 per lobe for the bulk-length cam. Remember, during The Great Depression that was a lot of money to save. Cool that you seem to have gotten an NOS un-cut, full-length piece. -Brad
Now that, my friend, is a FULL race cam ! You should have opted for the 3/4 race cam. You can use that cam if you buy a 283 LONG block . . .
nope should fit right in. I heard someone is now repopin the canuter valve gear for that so you don't have to worry about finding a good one. I know how hard to find they can be.
