When did this trend start? I really would like to know. My uncle told me about a 40's ford coupe that ran around in the mid to late 50's in south New Jersey that had a Olds engine and was run hoodless. From what he told me nobody could beat him. The guy was older and a engine builder, so I guess later part that helps. Anyway just wondering when it all started

That was my old man's first car - or so he said. That was definately my grandparents house. When asked he said that he was constantly working on it and it was easier without the useless hood - plus he was a tall kid, a bit uncoordinated, and would hit his head a lot on the hood. It seems that being practical was in back then.

  4. This car sure has a nice looking engine compartment and looks good hoodless. I took these pictures at Pleasanton about three years ago. I don't know who it belongs to, but it sure looks nice.

Here's a picture of mine- I really like the hoodless look but I need a shorter radiator... this looks goofy. (I'm self concious about it)

Within a year or so it's going to be painted gold with a white firewall and chrome inner fender panels....

Now you got the right idea!! Gold is a good period color, and its got to have a white firewall. AND Chrome innder fenders....I especially like!

I think 40 Fords were supposed to come from the factory without hoods but there was a glitch in the paper work or something.

Note the hood hinge area is completely molded in on this car. It's run hoodless since the mid 1970's. At one point the flathead in it ran a 6-71 blower with 6-2's!!!!!

The great thing about 40 Ford's is that they look good with or without the hood. Can't say that for too many cars.
