while looking for a Edelbrock Performer manifold for my rebuilt 1968 318 LA motor that is going in my 53 Dodge truck, I found another intake that might fit the bill, but I would really appreciate any feedback if this is a good choice or not. It is apparently an aluminum mopar performance intake. pics are of the intake and the mopar number. Anyone ever seen one of these and are they any good? thanks in advance for your expertise.
Lost my old Mopar performance wish books a long time ago. That said, looks like an aluminum copy of the factory square bore Holley carb intake. If your planning on running a square bore Holley, I'd go for it, the factory cast intakes were pretty good, flow wise. Probably good through the 6,000 rpm range, your using it on the street, right? If you plan on using a spread bore Holley, Thermoquad, Q jet, or small pattern AFB or AVS, I'd p*** because you would need an adapter. Gene
It's basically the Mopar version of the old Edelbrock LD340 intake. Excellent intake, good (or better) than the Performer.
if you have 318 stock ports the edelbrock performer intake has 318 / 273 sized ports the 340/360 ports are too big and will create leaks around the ports
No, it is not a copy of the LD340 - the LD340 has larger runners and sits higher than the Mopar Performance dual plane. As stated above, it is an aluminum copy of the 340/360 intake. Bolt that thing on you 318 and go, it will work great on a street engine, lots of low and mid range torque. I have run 340/360 intakes on 318s with no leakage or ill effects.
An LD4B is often regarded the best performance intake for a 318 with factory heads. It has the smaller runners than an LD340, but a little more flow than a Performer. If you're interested I have one off an old project I am selling.
