Need some tech advise, want to stuff a 260 v/8 into a 71 opel GT, I am debating what to run as a*******, either an automatic or 4 gear, Wud i be able to bolt directly to housing a C4? believe housing is 5 bolt. or wud i need an adapter, also advise on the 4 gear application Thanks Painter
There were 5 bolt C4 trannies for year or so before Ford went to 6 bolt bellhousings. If you can find one it will be a bolt up to the 260. Like wise, there are 5 bolt manual trans bellhousings. Both Falcon/Comet 260/289 were available in 5 bolt with Warner T-10 4 speeds with Ford bolt pattern trans cases. It's just a matter of locating the correct parts and a BIG shoehorn! Best wishes.. Ray
Don't waste your time and money on adapting the five-bolt motor to your Opel. Besides giving up 30-40 cubic inches, it takes extra parts hunting and adaptation that just aren't necessary. Get a late 289 or (even better) a hydraulic-roller cammed 302. They will adapt easily to practically every bellhousing and transmission used in a Ford for about 30 years (1965-1995). That isn't quite true, but not too far from the truth.
ihad a c-4 in my 64 falcon that had a 260 in it i think its cool that you are using that 260 intead of a*****in small block chevy! post some pics of the build!
Hello, I have a couple of gt's I would love to do this swap. I should be home in a couple of months from deployment. Do the swap and post the pictures so it will give me some motivation to atleast get my opel running again.
i have absolutely no technical advice, but want to encourage you in the build. and push this back to the top in case someone else can help. please post pix. at least of the drivetrain swap. even if the car body is OT, the mechanicals aren't.
Thanks everyone for the solid advise, good or bad, need that kind of feedback, I'll post pics as the build progresses Thanks again Painter 2
As I remember C4 transmissions have a real bellhousing that bolts on. So Maybe you can use any C4 with the proper 5 bolt bellhousing. I have a stick shift bellhousing for the 5 bolt Ford and flywheel.
