Can anyone tell me what a reasonable, Southern California, price would be to have Buick alluminum drums/hubs redrilled with a new bolt pattern?

    Right now I have 5 on 4 3/4 pattern and need them to be 5 X 5 1/2.

    Thank you in advance,
    Mike:cool:

If you had access to a Bridgeport with a digital readout it would be a piece of cake . You must make sure you have material to do this ? There is a formula for figuring this out .

You can do it yourself in a drill press, if you use a factory 5 x 5.5 brake drum or disc as a drill guide.
Mount it all up on a drill press, bolt it all down real solid, take your time and be really careful, and all your holes will be perfect.

I had a machine shop quote me $ 260 US to do two wheels!
    I think even $ 50 sounds steep ............

    Thanks for the response,

$260, obviously the machine shop is too busy for a small job....

$50 is fair in my mind, considering their investiment in equipment...

I had to redrill 9" Ford rear drums on a 5 X 4.5" bolt pattern, used my drill press as already stated above...

Just about any machinist has a similar chart in his Kennedy box. Just as easy to trig out from scratch though.

I could probably make a pretty penny dedicating a Bridgeport for just drilling out axles and drums for the m***es. $50 per drum is not bad since the center has to be picked up in each one. The holes have to be spotted, drilled and reamed so the studs have the right press fit.

before you start drilling make sure that races/bearings will fit whatever it is you are putting them on. make sure there is enough surface area on drums, etc to do this. plus, put new bearings. etc in while apart

  12. if you have 4-3/4" now , and the buick drums/drums were originally 5"....the 5-1/2" will be the third set of holes. you may be running out of room to safely drill . you should check that out first
