I have a 0.060 over 292 LP gas pistons, PES lump port head milled 0.030 and .550 lift springs. I am looking for opinions on a cam for the street. Max RPM @ 5500 single 500 CFM edelbrock and change over to three Holley 94's after break in. Just looking for an off the shelf for more torque than HP and it is going in a fenderless, chopped, short boxed 32 pickup

There is an excellent book on Chevy 6's by Leo Santucci that is widely recommended and is available from a number of sources. Motorbooks, e-bay, etc. Costs about $20 or so and should be a great reference to answer your cam questions.

Actually I have the book but it really does not give specifics on a cam for the street it talks more to racing. I was hoping one of the inliners would shed some light on what they have used and what level of sucess they have had.

Check with Oregon Cams. Their business is grinding cams. Can give you some advice . Helped me out on my flatty six for a cam. They had about 4 in house grinds to pick from.

Two more leads for you. Came across this Chevy 6 Guru inquiring about my 292. "Langdon Stovebolt", theboss@stoveboltengineco.com Another guy to get in touch with is Jamie Franklin of Franklin Engineering, Riverveiw, FL. I bought a used Clifford 4bbl intake and Holley carb setup off of him.He lives and breathes 292 inlines. Good Luck

I got a 250 in line 6 with .030" of the head, propane flat top pistons, split manifold, offy. 4 barrel intake with 465 holley cfm carb, with schnieder racing cam 262 duration, with 3 angle valve job and it runs better then v8's not to mention i can still wrap up the pipes :D Just my .02 cents

I would recommend calling up Larry at Clifford Performance in Wildomar, Ca. All they do is build inilne 6's. Or just goggle clifford performance. Good luck Bro

Funny I have there intake and never thought of Clifford. I must wonder how long I have been away from this build. Thanks and this one should be fast enough with the right cam.

What transmission are you using and is it stock or modified? how heavy is the vehicle? how rough of an idle do you want?

THe truck is pretty light short box fenderless I have a saginaw 4 speed or a built turbo 400 I have not decided yet but I am leaning towards the turbo. A lumpy cam is fine with all the mods I have done it is probably the best utilization of this motor. Also have the oversize intake and exhaust valves.

DON'T FORGET THE ZINC ADDITIVE or GM's EOS. Unless there's a way to go roller lifters on a GM six, you really need it.

Go with a Clifford 270 cam. It will produce good power and still be managable. Tom

270 is good, but it may need a little more stall speed on the converter than stock. general rule is anything over 260 the stall speed needs to be taken into consideration.
A TH400 is going to be overkill. it robs more HP and MPG than a TH350 or 200-4R or 700-R4. An overdrive would be alot better if you can. you can get the best of both worlds. Off the line quickness and long distance cruising rpms...

What rearend gearing and tire OD?
