Ok I'll try and explain this if no good then I will take some pics.
I have an early 21 stud flathead but it looks like someone has fitted a later fuel pump without the crankcase breather.
Firstly could that be possible and secondly can I just buy the fuel pump stand and breather combo and fit it to what I have?
My problem is I have oil leaking badly from the dipstick tube and oil pan breather and think the problem is the above.
    Thanks

You have the right idea replacing the breather. The dipstick tube is your breather for now.

So what parts do I need to buy?
I have the fuel pump stand so I'm guessing a new fuel pump, push rod and bushing?
    Part #'s would be a great help.(The Mac's web site is a little hazy:confused:)
    thanks

    Bob,
Do you have an aluminum or cast iron intake? Some aluminum intakes take a shorter push rod. If you still need part numbers etc. I have the Ford "green" book and will look them up. Let me know.
    later,glider.

We presume it has the original cast single carb manifold. Some of the pommy pilots and 49 53 v8s had a breather/ road draft tube on the front. I am not too sure but some sumps had a small triangular breather tucked into the front corner , check that too.The dip stick tubes are prone to leak around the sump boss if the rivets are loose. But if you have no breather this is the point of least resistance out the tube. The cast manifold has a longer pump rod than the alloy manifold so you will need to get the correct one. Pumps are interchangeable. You could always go electric and just use a breather on the back and block off the pump boss.
