Gauge rebuilders? Who?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RodGuyinCO, Mar 15, 2010.

  1. I have a 50 Ford speedo/gauge setup that I want to get fixed and updated. I know there are rebuilders out there, but I need to know who I can depend on who'll return my phone calls and not keep my setup for 5 years before it gets returned.
Is sending off my gauges like giving my rod to a body guy where it's kept in "paint jail" for eons? Or doth I asketh too much?

I tried a thread search and couldn't find what I needed, sooo... Maybe I just couldn't find the right keywords.

APT Instruments in Bloomington MN. They do fantastic work. They do it all too. Electrical, mechanical, reprinting gauge faces, they can even make new gl*** lenses with the right concave shape too. They did an old mechanical tach for me. Converted it to an electrical with a 6 volt positive ground system. Here is there website but I would certainly give them a call. Pretty quick turn around too.

I used redline gauge works (http://www.redlinegaugeworks.com/). They will restore or retrofit to your specs. I got mine ('51 merc pickup gauges) retrofitted with all new internals for 12v but it looks original in appearance. Not cheap (about 400-500 after conversion canadian $), but I was happy with the result. It probably took about 2 months including shipping time if I remember correctly.

I have used APT in Minneapolis as well, and they did good work. It took a few months for my project.
