HA HA HA That's funny right there! It would be better if they replaced the two douche bags and didn't post "value". Kinda slaps the sellers in the face.

I agree. Buying something for $40 and the value/sold is $65 it does not make much sense to drive and invest that much time for a couple items. What are they buying that they are not showing ?

I watch it every week if I can and it shows that good stuff is out there and can be bought. I like to pick 2 or 3 state area and drive the 2 lanes and back roads just looking for cars and what else looks like it hasn't been loved in awhile, sometime with the right at***ude I can get people to come off their stuff. I will buy it if the price is right and haul it to the closest storage and come back to bring my finds back home, I usually stay out 2 or 3 weeks or what I can afford. Sometimes I make a few buy but sometimes I just get to visit with some cool and some crusty old farts that will let their stuff just sit and rot or want restored prices and come home empty. Whatever the result I still enjoy seeing places that I wouldn't have. I don't have deep pockets and usually have to sell off some of my stuff to finance the trip so I don't get to do it often enough to suit me. I try and forget the flat tires fried wheel bearings on my trailer, getting stuck in pastures but all things considered it's still an adventure and sometimes I come out a few bucks ahead and save some old iron from a terrible end.

Sometimes value isn't in what you buy but in what it took to get it. Enjoy the adventure of the hunt, the find and the satisfaction in doing something fun. Some might not think so, but $$ isn't everything.

I enjoy both shows for what they are - entertainment. I've picked, dumpster dived, garaged/yard saled, etc and usually spend more than I get if/when I sell stuff.

Heck, I never got more out of a beer when I got rid of it than I did when I got it :p :p :p but boy some period of ownership issues sure made for a great time and are invaluable!

Maybe I should claim the monetary 'loss' as entertainment taxes  :D or a business expense.

The sellers know some of the stuff is more valuable but they just proably want it gone. I picked up a 23 t touring, complete with folding top bows, complete windshield frame and headlights for $250 and in good shape, off of craigslist last weekend. I was the first caller :D, the old guy knew it was worth more just wanted it gone :D

  8. I'll bet the farm that the History Channel is paying for the van, fuel, motels, food, etc. Don't need to make a killing on everything they buy when someone else is picking up the tab!

they already have to many reruns, seems like pickers and pawnshop is all reruns anymore

  10. I am sure that they buy alot more than what is shown on the show...they just highlight a few things that appeal to a broader m*** of people. They no doubt pick up alot of things that will sell all day long in a flea market/antique store/ebay, etc. but the producers of the show don't want you to touch the dial when they show every last little thing that they pick up. It wouldn't be very interesting if they just pulled up with a big semi and gave these people some cash and tossed everything in it. Good editing and content makes a show more compelling though I still don't understand why my wife and daughter watched Jon and Kate...

I don't get why the old farts that have a barn full of stuff don't want to sell it all. How many times are they going to have a buyer knock on the door and want to haul it away AND pay them for it? That 'ol farmer in Iowa sure ain't getting any younger ya know.

No kidding. Some of the stuff they have not even seen themselves in 30 years and these guys are sometimes offering more than most people would. A little tin sitting on a shelf for 40 years untouched and the guy can't sell it........

    Good point,Rich!
J*hn and K*te and their eight were receiving $75,000 per episode(according to K*te).

Whatever the "Pickers" find along the way to supplement their fun or funds is icing on their cake?

Bobby said he enjoyed their visit to his junkyard shown in last weeks episode.
I think he said they filmed it in September or October of last year.
Two vehicles and the white van, lady director, two cameramen and a sound guy.

I felt bad for the last guy that needed enough cash to finish the fence that the county was forcing him to put up so the neighbors couldn't see his treasures!

They walk into a barn full of cool stuff and walk out with a box of padlocks, a lamp and an oil can? They need to go big or just go home.

And then step all over their stuff and break it in order to grab something they want. There is very little respect in what they do and how they do it, making it into a tv show and bragging about how they bargained someone out of something for a whole lot less than it's worth is too much.

I agree you could see the tears in this guys eyes and the fact that he only sold it to build that fence really screwed with him.

I don't feel too bad for the guys that the city/county/state is after who won't sell anything when its sitting outside, piled up high rusting into the ground like some of the hoarders on this show. :( If you are going to collect something, take care of it and get it inside so it doesn't get destroyed. What's the sense of collecting something if you are turning it into worthless rusted junk? Of course the guys on this show are a bit phoney when they are trying to buy something, just buy and sell at a swap meet and you'll see plenty of that. They are in business to make money, so take them for what they are - scalpers! My wife and I were wondering what the sellers feel like when they see the show when it's aired? That said, how many of us are trying to make money on something we bought and hope to sell to make a profit on? If someone does it for the love of the old stuff and spend their profits on fixing or buying more old stuff for themselves - that's OK with me. :D

I like that show, just because of the old stuff.. I'm suprised at the stuff they just walk past though.. Like last nights episode when they just p***ed up the A100 Trucks, and all the cars and car parts laying around... I don't think I would've left!!

And the other episode where they went to the tunnel guys place.. That was pretty sweet, and I would have loved to have that Oakland/Pontaic dealer sign that was super cool...

But when they p*** up cars, tractors, parts, and other really cool stuff, for bookends, broken lamps, and oil cans it just makes you wonder... But it also makes you wonder what they don't show...
I don't think I could p*** up some of the cars and parts they've shown..

  25. I'd rather watch *** pickers than those fat old ****s from the pawn shop... who try to burn everyone that walks in the door. Their ****ing grumby old dad bugs the **** outta me and the son with his ****ing laugh kills me too.........I'm having a bad day just flaked out a gas tank and its peeling on me. I need a nap.

  26. Show Pickers, are those the guys who go around digging nickel deposit cans and bottles out of the trash cans?

These guys are doin' this on their dime and making a living from it plus they get the cheese from the tv people, if I could afford to do that full time I wouldn't think twice. I didn't even mention hitting the small salvages that have tons of old cars some of the guys will get right on the money when you can catch them with empty pockets.
