Well All I can do is laugh seeing that I first posted this in the Classified section....and I work in the IT field...go figure. New guy here checking in from the Detroit area. Phattpat a close friend of mine and board member introduced me to the HAMB. There seems to be a lot of good info and some very knowledgeable and dedicated folks here that I'm looking forward to meeting and gaining knowledge and insight from. My current addiction/hobby is the 69-76 big block caddy engines. I've got an 83 Monte Carlo that will be receiving a 507 cid transplant sometime next year. While looking for more donor cars, I happen upon a 56 Cadillac series 6219 four door that was abandoned in a old parking garage in Downtown Detroit. I believe the car to have 32k original miles on the clock. She still had US Royal Bias Ply tires on the rims. Now for the bad part. Even thought it was stored inside it was not stored properly. There was also a lot of vandalism to the seats. Since I picked up the 56 I've become very interested in this and other eras of classic cars and hot rods. Now I'm starting to do more research into era specific speed parts for the 56. I'm thinking a Cragar or Offy 4X2 setup breathing through a VS 57 would be pretty sweet. Well thats my intro and Im sticking to it. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.
Now your on the trolley! Cool caddy find. Dash looks real nice and the whole car looks complete and solid. I wouldn't want to know what went on inside an abandoned car in a parking garage over the years, I'd burn those seat covers if I were you Are those pictures where you found it?
Jonnycola send me a PM to let me know about my SNAFU Those pics where how I found her. There was so much dirt and stuff on it you couldn't see through the windshield and at first I didn't know it was a two tone car. Tahoe Blue body with a white top. So far this project has been going pretty good. the rims and the lugs looked very very good when I pull off the hub caps. I did put some used shoes on her for now. 75% of the electrical seems to be working and I did manage to get her fired up. Some massive vacuum leaks and a gummed up carb keep it from idling but the 365 sounded real strong and quiet while it was running. I would say the car is 95% complete. The only thing I think I'm missing is the trunk lock tumbler and the outer trim for the tumbler. There is one rust hole on the front driver fender that I found so far but all in all she does seem pretty solid. and so far no major fluid leaks!!! After the holiday I hope to get the Carb rebuilt and see how all the accessories do once they see a little vacuum. Then it'll be time to see how the breaks respond Steve
Wow that is a kickass find! I am glad you redid your intro. You seem like a good addition to the board. Welcome! Keep us posted on the progress. I would love to see a pic of it with decent tires and a good scrubbing out in the sunshine!
Glad you made it aboard Steve! That car was quite a find. All the original stainless trim is in perfect shape. The lugnuts looked like they had never been touched by a wrench, and the steel wheels looked brand new behind those caps. Interior is damn-near mint. Even had the original bumper jack and jacking instructions in the trunk, and found a set of keys for it taped up under the hood. The doors close like a vault! Power windows worked great, as did the heater blower motors, etc. etc... Get that thing closer to the ground on a set of wide whites, and man I'd cruise in that thing all day long...
Nosurf, I really appreciate the kind words.. Right now she's got that old school nascar look about her. Like when they used to race on the beach. Rigt now I've got 215 70 15's on the black steel rims. with the 70's it's almost on the ground. Pat the next thing we need to do is get her home. and quick we got an autorama to get ready for...I hope. Looks like autoramabob is giving you the big thumbs up.
Welcome, those 56 caddy hubcaps are the coolest in my opinion. They only fit very few wheels so you never see them. you'll like it here. FED
Man....THAT'S COOL!!!! Be sure and take plenty of pics during the build up. Oh yeah....Welcome aboard! Butcher
