I need an "almost" flat roof piece to use as a solid insert on my A coupe.

What have you used? I heard '65-'66 Impala sedan?

Anyone has something laying around in WA state?

I have used Ford Maverick, Ford Falcon, Dodge Challenger and I think I used a Volare once too.
The Maverick and Challenger worked real nice, but the one with the Challenger roof insert didn't have a visor ( I rounded off that part of the roof, and changed the shape of the top of the windshield...)

  3. I really enjoy the roof insert on that A sedan from Australia? in the new CKD...

I used the roof from a '72 Nova 4-dr. It had the right shape and the cars are everywhere in the junkyard...

Coupe or Fback? You can probably come up with a coupe roof a lot easier.

Rolf, after seeing the quality work you do, go with Duce Rails post on metal shaping/hit the dots. And you don't have to muck through the snow to get a doner panel. Leave that panel for us butchers!

Believe it or not, I've seen mid 80's Dodge Caravans ans Plymouth Voyagers used for this application, mostly because they have those neat little ridges already formed, to each his own I guess.....

I made a template and ended up using a Chevy Citation roof. The curve from it made my coupe look like it came that way!

I'd stay away from any late model stuff. Sheetmetal ain't what it used to be.

On the A sedan i'm building i found a 64 Ford wagon roof worked great putting it on backwards. Then i glued the original style material over it to make it look traditional. The tops off other cars are the only way to go instead of flat sheet metal.

Yeah, but can he bring him self to cut one up? That Volvo roof sure does fit nice. Volvo sheet metal is pretty good stuff too. Not like a lot of the late model stuff.

drhotrod: That sedan looks great. Have you posted any other pictures of it?

Jaypee. You do good work up there ! Got more up-dates on that car? The Volvo insert looks great.

Hell yes, I would butcher any Swedish car if it get my RED-BLOODED-AMERICAN-HOT-ROD closer to completion [IMG]
