I started this thread in the main forum so I'd get more exposure. It has some HA/GR content. Feel free to add to it here and/or there. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=455708
Don't think any current sanctioning body would pass a square tube roll bar in tech inspection unless the car was not required to have a roll bar. As for "square corners" on a roll cage, I doubt they would pass either for their tendency to dig in rather than slide on impact. It seems the current trend is for the driver to be contained within the cage structure in such a manner that all areas of impact are prevented from making contact to the driver.
NO, NO, NO, NO they will not fly..Don't waste your time even thinking about them..Unless you want to weld something together just for practice.. NHRA,,,Round tubing only....
This has nothing to do with square roll bars. I just wanted to give a "Heads Up" on a thread on the main discussion board. Dakota Kid, from South Dakota has a build thread for his Hamb dragster. Give it a look.
Dick, the midgets are cool. So are the old sprint cars over there. And there's some great front engine dragster threads. 64 DODGE 440 had already contacted the Dakota Kid and I think he'll start a build thread here. If you want, go to the main discussion board and search "Taco Tickler". Or search for threads started by Dakota Kid. I better say something about square tubing roll bars lest I be accused of piracy of a thread. Never have I seen it. I've been around drag racing since 1957 and have seen every kind of construction horror (Might have built a few myself) but never square tubing roll bars.
