Matchbox cars. We swept the TGnY store and the manager would give us 1 car.
We swept that store 3 times a week. Only the cars that were a dollar though.
We had a fleet. We'd make roads and have 20-30 cars. I guess thats where I got the notion that 11 cars is ok.

  4. Born and raised on the farm. My first tricycle was a John Deere pedal tractor. I grew up and moved to the city where I fell in love with hot rodding. I'd say I have another year and a half until I'm out on the farm again with the misses to be and starting a family IN THE DIRT.

I'll be damned if my kids are going to grow up parked in front of a TV screen wasting time to video games. My dad made me help on the ranch and now I'm one of the hardest working younger guys I know since all these city kids in my generation where I live now are lazy ass, open palmed parasites.
    Sorry... A little off subject.

Anyways, I believe playing outside in the dirt should be manditory for kids nowadays.

My son's (he's 3) favorite toys are Hot Wheels and trucks/construction equipment (Tonkas)....he plays with them constantly....as do I. Haha.

Is it even possible for little boys to NOT get dirty???? It's in their (our) genes....

It's funny this post was brought up. Just last week I was finishing up the lawn. I had stripped a planter bare. No sooner than I was done, my 6y/o son is standing there with his trucks and motorcycles. He gets down on his knees and starts making jumps. I was spent and sweating. I was hoping he wouldn't ask me to join because I've had a recent knee surgery and my spine fused two years ago. He did ask me to play with him, looking up at me. There is very little I say no to, when it comes to his requests. We played for almost two hours not knowing my wife checked on us from the window and had snapped some pics in the meantime.

Yeah, it's kinda' interesting to see other guys my age millin' around the Hot Wheels and diecast cars while the kids that should be playin' with 'em are in the Electronics Dept holding a DVD while jumping up and down yelling "Momma!, we don't have this one!"
We've got Atwoods farm and garden stores around here, I always manage to check out the Ertl diecast tractors and farm implements, that stuff is cool!!

I can tell you that my 4 yr old still does it!He takes all his monstertrucks and toy dirtbikes and plays in the big hole I left from digging out a tree in the back yard. For a little bit we even made a little jump for his scooter and his real dirtbike(for me)so we both still do it!We are fortunate to have relatives with acreage so we can go out and drive papas tractors and ride our dirtbikes too.We are lucky.

I grew up out in the country in North Dakota and practically lived outside playing in the dirt. Now it seems like most of the kids today need a video game to have fun. No imagination. I see all these suvs with movies playing in the back seat for the kids even if they are just driving a few blocks for groceries! I feel like I am too young to be saying "back in my day" ,but man have times changed quickly! I'll be 30 next month.

I was born on a farm in Pennsylvania while my father was away bombing Germany and Japan (WWII). I became my grandfather"s shadow and was riding on tractors before I learned how to walk. With a supply of toy trucks and tractors and 1200 acres not a day went by without playing in the dirt. I'm 65 year old and still have my grandfathers 8N Ford tractor but only 5 acres to play around in.............still like the smell of freshly turned soil.
