Anyone have a link to a site that has a "Turbo 350 rebuild for dummies'? I can only find some fuzzy, no sound junk on youtube. Or maybe recommend a book on the subject? I ain't building a high power screamer, just for my daily work bus.
I'd like something like this too. Someone here said all you need for tools is a couple of C clamps and a vise to rebuild a 350 turbo. I have those.
36roadster, I have step by step videos for rebuilding th350s. I can loan you one if you pay the postage to get it to you & back. Call me if you want: (715) 835-0128. Or pm me. DAVE
I've used these guys manuals before and they are pretty well written and easy to follow. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ATSG...70338061851QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature There is also one that you can find at the book stores and some auto parts manual sections that is pretty good. I think I have an older copy of this one http://www.amazon.com/Turbo-Hydra-M...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268857279&sr=1-1 that I have used to walk myself through a couple of turbo 350 redo's.
i've done a ton of thm 350's and if u guys are just getting by with just a couple of c clamps that amazing. i've made most of the support tools u need to disassemble and assembly this trans.first off u will need to make a couple of small slide hammers to remove the front pump from the case itself, also a band clamp to wrap around the front pump to line up the two halves of the pump, after u split it to clean and inspect the front pump . as u get deeper into the trans u will need to make up some spacers to remove the seals for forward and direct clutch housings, and low and reverse clutch spring seat which is deep in the case. what i would use is some keystock bent into a "u" shape. also for the valve body cut a couple of heads off 1/4 inch bolts and slot the ends so u can use these to align the valve body.it is always wise to measure all the end plays before and after ur rebuild.it is important to achieve this measurments to factory specs if u want a smooth shifting trans.most important is to clean everything so it spotless.assembly of the seals for the clutch packs can be trying at the best of times, all i used is a feeler guage about 005 thick.these transmissions are not that hard to rebuild,u just have to be careful and lay all the parts out in order of disassembly.there are air checks u can perform to check out the operation of clutch packs and bands.most important are the built in check valves on the clutch drums, make sure they are working and not plugged
Yup. I suppose you could do all that. I've done several, and never needed all that. But, your mileage may vary. I recommend the TH350 book on Amazon as well as any factory GM manual for any car that uses that trans. Cosmo
