I have a thread on the build of this car but i have a question. We went with a flat paint job on the car and to save some man hours on the project the stainless has been brushed. all the chrome parts are original to the car and show it age but cleaned up fairly well the car is getting lake style headers the side gl*** trim is going to be painted black to fade away with in the body. The question is do we brush what chrome parts we have the lake pipes the bumpers and grill or leave them alone just hit them once with some Mothers. we keep going back and forth on it but once you brush it it is there for good scratches and all.
...to my mind, the chrome fits the car and goes hand in hand with the precision of the chop, door gaps, stance, etc. The brushed stainless offers a great contrast to the chrome and fits beautifully with the flat blue paint.....
A good artist is one who knows when to quit. The chrome is a great ***et to the look. That is a great looking ride, by the way.

Great looking car, good luck
The only stainless on the car is for the the belt line, and i tend to agree with what has been said so far leave the chrome alone. Applying the brush finish to those parts would have taken a good days worth of work. We received a test panel from the pinstriper yesterday and colors he picked out are going to be great on this car.
I would go with the chrome... and if you doubt about the looks of it clashing with the rest of the car you can always add a thin coat of dull clear coat to see how it would look brushed... Some thinner will clean it of if you don't like look better than the shiny stuff.
Theres a shop on here that posted a build on a removable hardtop 49-52 chev and they did the brushed look on the flat blue paint... the look ****ed, the chrome makes the suede pop
When building traditional customs, use a precedent as guidance. Have you ever seen a car like that with brushed chrome? Probably not, and for good reason. I think it would look like you cheaped out.
chrome, chrome, chrome. we were debating whether to paint or chrome the grille in our 52. it would have looked good either way, but you just cant beat chrome.
Im a big fan of chrome. That being said, will the brushed trim look funny with chrome bumpers, lake pipes, etc...? I dont really think so...the brushed trim blends well with the satin paint. The chrome bumpers, lake pipes, etc...seem to ground the car, like a foundation, if that makes any sense. Brushing everything will look a little too High Tech, and by the looks and proportions of the car, you seem to have nailed the Traditional look. Painting the side window trim will either "fade away with the body" or make it stand out and look cheap, IMHO. I guess ya gotta try it and see!
I will have t agree with everyone and keep the chrome. the main reason for painting the side widow trim is due to the cost of getting thes items re chromed they were too far gone to leave alone, and the chrome paint still looks like plastic to me. Thanks for all the imput sometimes it helps to get few other thoughts on a project. Rex
Man that is one sweet chevy, love the satin blue and the brushed stainless, did you ever consider nickel plating the bumpers? Billy
Nickel plating would look great with the flat blue. the car was to be flat black until a week before the paint was shot in fact the fire wall and under cariage is all black. I will post some update shots of the car in the morning on the build thread of the car.
I understand the economics all too well!. I was basically suggesting than maybe a different color that wasnt such a stark contrast might help to "hide" the window frames better than black would. I agree, chrome paint looks cheezy, no matter how good the cap looks!
Here is ashot with the black side gl*** trim, I think it turned out good. were leaving the chrome chrome just brushed the stainless on the belt line.
I like Rikster's Idea. Personally I think the chrome looks nice but hay who cares what anybody else thinks, It's your car build it the way YOU like it. Nice ride man!Cant wait to see it around Denver area .Hope your going to KKOA Salina Kansas lead sled show in July.Your car will be appreciated big time there. Go to( Kustom Kemps of America )for imformation.
My dad bought a stainless polishing kit from eastman's. He's no expert and it turned out pretty good. You can justify the initial outlay knowing that this isn't your last build, AND, when your friends come over to use it,they will have to buy you beer and cigarettes as long as they are there.
