Do you have AADD? Automotive Attention Deficit Disorder

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 38Chevy454, Dec 22, 2004.

  1. I must have Automotive ADD bad, as I seem to like all kinds of old cars and parts. I always have too many projects going at once, seems that I never finish one before starting another. Always looking for another new car project that I don't have the money for. Buying cool parts that do not fit anything I currently have.

I get distracted so easy that I hurt progress on the stuff I should work on and get finished first. My garage is a constant mess that looks like a tornado swept through. I spend too much time on the HAMB reading about everyone's projects and car show pics. I think there is no cure for Automotive ADD, you just have to learn how to live with it [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Are you complaining or bragging? [IMG] It doesnt matter. The only thing that matters is enjoying what you are doing TODAY.

Yeah, I also can't motivate myself during the winter, which is prime wrenching time. I have been laid off for three weeks, but instead of getting work done in the garage, I am sitting here.

  5. I've had AADD for at least 50 years. I've tried all the better known treatments...hunting, fishing, bowling, drinking, chasing wild women, and a few others. I can only report that none of those cures took hold and I am hopelessly afflicted. I'm doing final assembly on my track roadster and although I have the '32 roadster project all piled up and ready to start on I'm still looking at suitable projects after they are done.

My wife is convinced I'm certifiable...but as what we can't agree.

sometimes it's tough not to think about things mechanical

like during staff meetings, sub meetings, formans meetings, while I'm at my desk, at the plan table or in the field, pretty much all the time, at work.

I have very severe case, but it has progressed to other fields as well, not only do I have 20 cars and trucks in the yard I have 4 WW2 halftracks, plus 6 wheeled military vehicles,I can't pass a tree line without stpping for a look, who knows what might be hinding back there. I don't think there is a cure,if there was I'm sure my wife would have slipped me some by now. Also it is a heredity problem,my dad had it bad and now my girls are showing signs.

Had it for 40+ years now.I remember late last winter finding a complete Model A Ford motor in a wood pile. Real neat find until I realized it was the wood pile in my yard. [IMG]

Yep I've got it. Wife kids me all the time that
I can only remember dates by what I was driving at the time. Worst thing about it is that she's right. My dad always told me I'd do better in school if I remembered my lessons as well as cars, he was also right. He's gone now, but my mother still doesn't understand and hell I'm almost 61 now so it's been a life long affliction

  17. Me too. My brain is always in overdrive " future project building in my head". Sometimes I get it so bad that I forget shit. Like walking a swap meet all day, tired as shit, getting back to the truck fixing to leave, been there all day and realizing that I forgot to grab the 3x2- 348 Chevy, heavy as shit cast iron intake that I paid for that is on the other side of the swap meet. Then as Im going to get it stop and talk to a guy that is selling 4-speed parts. After getting a life story and buying a trans from this guy "which I now have to carry back as well" find out that I just missed the asshole that I bought the intake from...He was gone, intake too and my money...my fault it was damn near dark. I did run into him later in the year and got the intake. It is a sickness. [IMG]
