Although this could apply to a traditional car, a friend asked this about an OT Olds he is building. "If you were to mount the exhaust system, muffler and pipes, rigid to the frame of a car with a flexible connection at the engine, would it transmit sound/harmonics to the car?" He plans on mounting the muffler in the X member with the pipes solid to the X where the go thru. What do you guys think.
I did a race (Pro Rally) car that way years ago (1986) It sent all kinds of crazy harmonics throughout the body shell. Annoying as hell.
hotroddon, did you have any kind of flex connector on them? Apparently they make some pretty flexible ones for exhaust.
I used the SS weld on flexpipe at the exhaust man. and mounted the outside pipes solid. Works great. Don't know about harmonics cause it's a loud ride anyway.
Thanks again guys, I let him know your answers and he is going to find a way to isolate it. He doesn't want to take a chance on any noise as he is building it for someone else.
