I get a kick out of the commercials. I think I'd consider GG's to be Iowa's "Premier Rod and Custom Show" (or whatever they say). Hey, at least you can meet the Fonz, Chip Foose, and play the XBox or Wii, though!
wow - they are promoting the fact that you can play video games there as a PLUS for the show? ugh oh well - I WILL BE THERE - selling all the hot rod movies - Rat Fink shirts - magnets - posters and promoting the crap outta the Vintage Torque Fest if you need info to take back to your village or hamlet - please let me know!
I will be going down Saturday night. A good friend of mine and my Dads will have his 40 ford down there, it's black with red interior check it out it's beautiful!

couple of my friends went yesterday and said it was eh ! oh well i need to take a break and get out of my sign shop this afternoon so i think i'll make the trip and waste a little cash !
I just got back from the DM World of wheels show. Wasn't a huge show but it was a nice way to spend a snow covered afternoon. Henry Winkler was very cool, greated everyone with a smile and a hand shake. Everytime I saw Chip Foose he was bent over signing something. Both guys had pretty long lines of fans waiting to see them. I've attached a few pictures that of cars that stood out a HAMB friendly, the rest are at http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/Orange52/vehicles/56013
Car show was decent, definately a nice place to have one. Who's 35 Ford was that down stairs in with the Oliver Bros stuff? Did it actually run, that was one of my favorite cars there!!
Me, my truck's in it, my old roadster is there, the guy that bought it keeps puttin doodads on it, looks like a poster child for the JC Whitney catalog
all in all a little on the pricey side but a good way to kill a snowy sat afternoon ! there were a few nice cars there ! an absolutely gorgeous black coupe with hop up stickers on the cowl , white pinstriping on the 32 grill signed by von dutch , looked to be an old survivor car but i could be mistaken ! anyone know who owned the blue chevy truck with the red wheels ? had a hamb sticker in the window and i love the color and would like to contact the owner , believe the last name was longstreet from des moines ! stopped by coolstuffs booth bought another weisner print and grabbed some torque fest posters and flyers to give out ! not a bad day
Yes, he's a really good friend of mine,I did the suspension and motor and tranny, my brother fabrcated the rear gravel sheild and tail light stands, spent lots of time on the gaps, the paint is a chrysler color. PM me and I will get you his number.
I have to say your truck is very tastefully done! It has a bad ass rake to it and I love the Olds fiesta caps!!!! You live in Des Moines and that is the first time I have ever seen that truck.
That was Mr Vintage Torque himself, you need to get out more often. He bought it at the K C Show last month. There was a thread about 2 guys coming to IOWA in an old ramp truck to get it. They got pulled over by cops , had expired insurance papers, but its back in IOWA.
Yes sir that is his coupe! Hopefully should be heading to it's home either today or tomorrow! Great show for us! Met quite afew great people. The show itself has to many "politics" for our group. This will be the 1st and ONLY showing for our group at a World of Wheels event! So I guess if they try to have it again, it might be interesting as our group was a major part of the "Motorama" section.
Oh that's right I do remember that thread on here! I forgot all about it. That was a cool and funny story.
The show was OK. Not great. I think overall the politics of the World of Wheels is the same about everywhere you go........ there are a few places - Like Indy and KC where WOW gives a lot more authority to the locals. Los Punk Rods and Road Rockets have turned the Motorama sections of those shows into a really good time and a lot of great cars. The rumor is that Vets memorial will NOT be used next year for the WOW show. If that is the case - then the Motorama section will just be mixed in with all the normal cars. Add to this the fact that the Olivers will not be there..... Takes a bit of the magic out of the show for me. And just so everyone knows........ if you are a vendor - and you bring a car to the show - they will NOT give you gas money for bringing your car. But ya know.........its funny cause I asked some other vendors and they seemed to have been able to get some special treatment.............again - the politics are in full force people. Not what ya know - but who ya know. I think I try to bring something different to the WOW shows, but not sure how much longer I can afford to do these. I have already dropped all the Good Guys shows due to the high vendor prices............will WOW be next?
John, I'm not sure what you and the oliver bros are refering to when you speak about 'politics' of a given show. For many shows, the future of indoor car shows in a given city is in the hands of all of those who participate in the Motorama's all over the U.S. Championship Auto Shows Inc. or (CASI) realizes this and thus the interest and growth in this portion of each show. Do you book your shows as a group of shows thru CASI or with each individual city? About the travel money, there are no stipulations in the ISCA rulebook on travel money for a vendor as long as you are a paid member in good standing with the ISCA and enter your vehicle in the show to be in competition. http://www.theisca.com/media/rule-book.pdf Later
Yes - I did not realize that you had to be in ISCA judging in order to get travel money. Now I know. As for politics of Oliver Bros - I will leave that for them to talk about. My situation is economic mostly. namely: How do I make money at these shows when the WOW charges so much for a vendor spot.................. that is the question. I dont have the answer. Bottom line - even though I have unique items that I feel true hot rodders want to see and perhaps purchase.........I simply dont make enough money to warrant the costs involved in some of these shows. Re Evaluation for 2011 fer sure
John, you by far had the coolest stuff there and the best prices! I enjoyed talking to you and learning more about Torque Fest.
Sorry to hear that the Oliver clan won't be back it looked like they enjoyed themselves. Even saw them looking at all the "Painted Stuff" & they had a great display. I thought it was a good show, nice building & everyone was friendly.
