I found a complete 1959 Mercury monterey 2 door hardtop, hasn't had anything touched on it, but the seats are done for. I think I can get it pretty cheap. I googled it and really didn't find much on a 2 door hardtop.

I'm expecting opinions and .02 cents!! Let it fly!! :D

HERE SHE IS!! SHOULD I GET HER???

Here's what she could look like!

I really like the '57-59 Mercurys. They were given a pretty long leash from parent company FoMoCo those years and they had some incredible designs, that being one of them. So were the Turnpike Cruisers and all the hardtop wagons.

Get it. Then proceed directly to www.losboulevardos.com, do not p*** Go, do not collect $200.

Nice factory custom. Would be cool to see something done with it. Those grills were used in some kustoms back in the day

Merc's didn't seem to survive well, kind of like everything else of the 58-59 period. There were lots built, but not too many remaining. The combination of dirty oil in the Y-block and the third or 4th owner's neglect seemed to eat them up.

We tried to sell parts off this one with no luck. Nice car and I love the "rocket" inspired rear quarters.

I bet one of those is very rare indeed. Got to be someone who is looking for one "just like Dad had".

  15. Dont know how rare it is but that car is gorgeous !!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. I don't really see how you can go wrong with a cheap 1950's 2 door hardtop anything anymore...

For me, even a cheap car needs to have good britework. If the stainless and chrome is decent driver quality, someone will wan't it. I've never seen a 2 door hardtop '57-59 Merc...pretty wild looking--looks like something for Zocchi or D-Agostino's next project.

Does it have a big FE in it? Some of the Merc's were pretty hot under the hood.

EDIT: If you do part it out, I'd love to get the grill insert

You said .02 was allowed so, I gotta say I love that car. Gotta love those fins, you could make a sweet custom out of one of those and roll it man.

    That rear gl*** is intense.

If you go for it, I'd say do the flip thing rather than the part it out thing. I'm not sure there's a big market for those parts, and with this economy, blah blah blah...

  22. Four door sedans and cars so rotty they'll break in half if you move them, are parts cars. Once it's gone, it's gone and they won't make any more.

Mercs were picked on for demo derbies and for s**** because they're big and heavy, so while the production would make you think they're not that rare, there's not a lot left.

I'd put it on eBay, some overseas buyer might want it.

Those guys in some places are at a better advantage on our dollar, and are buying again.

I sell most 59 Merc stuff overseas.

Those guys want them. If its a total rust bucket, with no gl***, motor, etc, maybe part it out.
Thats what I did with the last one I had.

Graft the doors and quarters onto a similar Merc wagon and make a 2 door out of it, ***uming Mercury didn't make a 2 door wagon. Or maybe make a MercRanchero out of it.

Yes, it is a rare car, but keep in mind that "rare", "desirable", and "valuable" are not triplets.

  29. Sure they are...but those girls are usually from another country!:)

EDIT: Or at least very old!
