I can't make it this year, some of me other mates can't do it either. Fly to Adelaide and get a hire car. If you haven't already, check out:http://www.dlra.org.au/ Everyone at the salt are great people, the end of week auction is funny as ****. Take extra supplies, if rain comes at the meet, the bull dust will turn to 4 feet of mud, you'll have to wait it out before you can get out of the desert, there's at least an hour drive out on dirt on a good day. An ice truck rocks up every year, you should be able to get ice every day. Also, if you don't know anyone, take a bike, because you may have to ride over a mile from the edge of the salt to get to the pits. The sheep station puts on a decent roast each night for about $12, and the diner is right on the edge of the salt. If you're towing (if you get the boat over), take it the **** easy, we saw a heavy wreck on the way out last year, a Commodore whipped on an S bend and ended up with a bent tree in the windscreen. Somehow they got out unharmed, and the ****in airbags didn't deploy - they wrote a warning sign on the car to anyone who wanted to haul it... Also, take your cricket uniform, black clothes **** on the salt. If you're from T***y, you'll need 30+ X 50 bottles. And prey that there's a woman at home when you get back, you'll need more than a welcome home hug... Good luck mate. It's a laugh.
It was a tad wet. My Aussie cousin ROOfus (no relation to Drewfus) told me the outback is a pretty harsh place and I needed some backbone in order to survive out there, so.......
Sorry to hear about the wetness, but I'm sure you'll have some great memories from the trip regardless.... More photo's please MrBones, I expect a full CD of photos from the adventure.... Cheers, Drewfus
Geez one the driest continents on the Planet....its Speedweek has been rained out at least 3X in the past few yrs. Long way to go to be turned back by Mother NAture. That's "racin" Did it dry out at all enough to allow ANY runs ? Rat
Dried out Tuesday and racin' started late in the afternoon. Some good runs were made, more news as it comes to hand, Mr Bones knows it all.
So yoose all wanna see some pics from the Aussie Salt, eh? Well, I didn't shoot many but here's the road in.... And here's the lake, lookin' just a tad soggy. Since I got no legs, it was much easier for me to take a cab out to the pit area than walk with Carps and Bob. Here we are sittin' out the storm over lunch in the Team Animal Bus. Dunno if bein parked in the middle of a dry lake-bed when it's rainin cats n dogs outside is the smartest idea I ever had, but the Aussies didn't seem to be bothered by it, so I figured they'd get me back to shore if the lake filled up. Here's what it looked like outside the bus durin' the storm... Unlike Bonneville, it don't take long to dry out in this part of the world. So once the rain stopped there was a show of colour added to the basic red an white landscape and almost instantly the water evaporated. Here's a few racers out in the pits..... Cool lookin' bonnet mascot on this one.... Here's the view lookin' back to the red stuff from the pits.....
