So I've got this 65 E van w/a 170 6 cyl and 3spd...now I have acsess to an econoline C-4 from a 240 but I dont think it will bolt up. Am I wrong? is there such a thing as a small block 6cyl automatic bell housing? I once had a 64 falcon 200ci w/3spd auto.

    pm please

  3. the auto transmissions for the early econolines are shorter than a standard c-4 and the have no crossmembers as they have mount on top of tail section. hit the yahoo group of early econolines as their is lots of great info there.

You can use the tailshaft from that transmission on a small bell housing
C-4 from a 200, Maverick, Falcon. Mustang etc. The tailshaft is the only part that is specific to the Econoline. The bell housings are not interchangeable. I just did mine and used a 65 Econoline tialshaft mounted to a 71 Maverick 200 C-4.

A C4 from a 200 six from 1965 all the way up to early 80's Mustangs and Fairmonts will work.
