I was running at Bonneville in the early 50's when Roy drove in with a brand new Chrysler 300. It had some issues getting through tech but finally made it...As I recall he went well over 100 with it.
He was very friendly and would stand and talk as long as you wanted to.

Too cool!! And a flathead Chrysler to boot, he just became a bigger hero to me. Roy Rogers was certainly a well rounded guy with alot of interests that are a surprise to me. Very cool info. Thanks!!~Sololobo~

You guys do know the Museum closed its door on Dec. 12 2009 ?? I went to the one in Victorville a few times.

  7. We've got some original 1950s 8mm footage of Roy & Dale doing a show up in Michigan...Bill Haley & his Comets went on after and, by the looks of it, may as well burned the place down!!

  9. If you remember Roy Rogers, a great American from the America that is no more, you shouldn't miss seeing these--

One of my all time favorite songs, a country-folk-song classic, and a horse that would dance...

I live in Apple Valley and you meet old timers all the time that met Roy Rogers and speak highly of him. Most seem to have met him at the local hardware store where after an introduction he would always insist on being called Roy and when meeting again he would remember your name. He haid a hemi powered '57 Imperial convertible in powder blue that must have been quite a sight here in our little desert community at the time.
Noodys in North Hollywood was the taylor of his outfits and a Noodys suit is a big ticket item at any memorabilia auction.
There is also a nice little display about fifties TV cowboys at the Gene Autrey Museum across from the LA Zoo. They have a wonderful gun collection too.

I still have my Roy Rogers cap gun and the box it came in.

  13. FYI, Nellie Bellie and 2 other cars are at Roy's original house here in Apple Valley. He later moved to a much newer/bigger house a mile or so away. I used to see Dale in the grocery store all the time, very cool people. His Victorville museum closed a LONG time ago, there's a car dealership now. Up until last year, his old Apple Valley museum that had turned into a bowling alley still had the vestiges of the facade. It looked like an old fort. Now, it looks like a boring bowling alley. If anybody wants pictures of Nellie Bellie, I can go snap some pics and put them on here.

The wife and I visited the Victorville Museum in the 80s. Roy not only collected all his memorabilia but all the other old Hollywood cowboy stuff that was sold. Bronko Billy etc.Wonder where it all is now? He was also a big game hunter in Africa. Not popular now but big stuff in the '40&50s. Think he also flew airplanes.

This is a cool thread. I never knew that about Roy. He was a Cool Cowboy.

  17. The Autry Museum just obtained the Rogers collection the other day. I went to the museum about 10-15 years ago. I could have spent the entire day there. I told my wife, if Roy comes out, I may start crying. I was serious as a heart attack. He was my all time hero......well, he and Duke Snider
