The side cover came in from www.millerhi-speedheads.com today. I like it. Looks "right" to me. I have spark and ordered more fabric covered wires to complete the ignition system properly. But for now I almost have what I need to get her started. The radiator is still screwed from the fan incident. I also need a fuel pump. I smashed my finger with a hammer at work today and it's screwed.:( Hurts a ton and is slowing me down.[IMG]
Here's a closeup. I need to find the right bolt for the oil return tube.

Yeah that touring was pretty cool. Funny thing is that by the time I had met Gabby he had already built the T and was starting to work on the Chev. But the T was the car I was really intrested in and I was too god damn stupid to really get into the touring even though it was the one I actually helped him with. Little stuff like 'hold this up' or 'slip this bolt through here when I get it lined up'. And I'll be damned if I never took one fucking picture of the car, only the T. But he was a talker and would stop whatever he was doing when I'd go to his place and we'd just sit under the tree in the back yard and talk...he earned the nickname "Gabby" early on in life. He had great stories and a wonderful memory.

Sawracer, that set-up looks fantastic, nice work. Where are you in so cal?

Fired it up a minute ago, really raps ! ! Gonna need some baffles !! Rear winnie leaks, chinese fuel psi regs blow or should I say suck, 8 volt batteries kick ass, needs timing and re adjust the carbs, add a throttle and rewire with the right wire. Man I am so stoked I am closing the shop and hangng with the wife and baby boy for once, I have been very selfish with my time since this project started.

  4. That sounds rad. What'd you end up doing with that winfield I told ya about and the guy shipping it screwed up?

Glad to hear it all "works" ;)

I kept what bits I could, kept the manifold and polished/ran it, (see it in this thread, I then gave the empty carb broken carcass to USPS for the insurance and got all my money back. I then bought two more winnies WITH hamber help, and I got one more in the mail coming as I can't say no to one for sale. I will have video of the motor coming soon.

  6. Glad to hear it sorta worked out for ya.

    Can't wait for the video!

Got dizzy curved. Rewired it, and only one carb is feeding the motor? Have no time to play with carbs as we are going on vacation. To be continued. Looks like I will probably make the hill climb in Devore CA on 8 sept.

This motor was for sale recently. I managed to get there and snap a few pics. I REALLY wanted to buy it, but being unemployed, well... Anyway here are the details...

1925 Chevrolet engine with a Robert Roof head, NO repairs.
Model B crankshaft, drilled, with B connecting rods.
    Jahns pistons.
    Reground camshaft.
Model A oil pan reversed with Model B rear half of pan added on.
    1930 Lincoln oil pump.
    1930 Nash lifters.
Front timing gear cover, engine turned.
    Model A flywheel.
Model B flywheel housing with B transmission, 1939 gears.
New 1908 brass carburetor, side draft.
    Robert Bosch magneto.
    Roof exhaust header.
It has mounts to fit a Model B Ford, new valves and valve guides.
This engine was acquired in 1946 fron Clidd Bennet. It has an undocumented race history in Texas on a 1/2 mile dirt track. Cliff was an excellent machinest working for Norberg Machine shop located at 8th Ave and Lincoln street in Denver.

I guess i should have said why i posted the motor and pics above...Earlier in this thread there was questions about Nash lifters and what years were used. The motor that was for sale used 1930 Nash lifters, and i just thought it was a really cool banger engine, especially with the Roof head and Bosch magneto.

    Sounds good.

Where could I find more info on doing something like this? Even if I couldn't find a vintage head it makes me wonder if this could be done with a later head (maybe 30's - 60's?).

  14. I have seen a Mitsubishi head on a "B" block. There was an article in FAST about it. Saw and heard it run last year at the FAST hillclimb in Sept.. Tragic story the builder suffered a heart attack or something as he finished a run and passed away, But what a way to go!

  17. that is awesome. Congrats on the build.

BTW: What cam are you running in that motor? Stock one?

  18. It was a 91 DOHC set up 16 valves. he made up a spacer to lengthen the head and machined pistons with offset to fit into adapter plate for compression had a computer for injection sounded real strong also Bill Stipe adapted a chevy V8 head to an "A" or "B". Saw a photo of a AMC head on 4 barrel block also read of 2 Subaru heads used on a very sophisticated block. All of these were written up in the F.A.S.T journal.

Okay, I feel like I'm hijacking the thread now (waaaayyyy too many posts by me in too short a time), but is there a way to get a copy of all the FAST stuff? I went to the site (got it bookmarked) and the only thing I find is where I can buy Videos of the annual seminars. Or is that in there too?

The cam is stock. The fast stuff and soss articles you gotta network, join the clubs, and get to know the members. You can't "buy" the info per say.

Route 66 F.A.S.T hill climb today. The dizzy let me down and an over zealously greased throw out bearing added to the clutch slippage but all in all she is gonna rock and roll! Next stop, roto faze dizzy, and a trick clutch. Here's a video. Special thanks to my job for making sure that I have NO TIME to prepare properly for the race. [IMG]

Did thr dist fail or was there some spark loss ? .I can't tell from this angle but there looks to be plenty of potential for spark to jump with those old time plug ends.

The dizzy failed, It's shorting out with aluminum bits to boot. I am over it in a major way. If a mag doesn't pop up I am buying a roto faze, pricey but the best. There is plenty of room for the plugs, but I can understand in the pics it looks close. The throttle linkage was a nightmare too!

Got the roto faze in and cruised at 80mph on the freeway today. That is with stock gears I might add.

Thanks for all the info here - I have a banger and a 2 port Chev head, and am building a model a frame for my coupe - I will fit a S10 T5 to the banger, but all rest is early Ford.

    Any updates?

  29. Bobby,

The best head to use on a T block is the '28 Chevrolet head (2 intake/2 exhaust ports) or a '23 Olds (2 intake/3 exhaust)... don't know about A's.
