Been working hard on the old pontiac for a while now. Ive almost got the airride setup all faded up along with the droped uprights and disk brake conversion. lots of work left to get her ready do drive to santa maria in a couple months but If I stay on it I should make it easy. rolled it out of the garage today to get a look and remodivate myself.
thanks for the complements guys! I did alot of reserch here on the hamb and it took about a year to come up with the plan and then get started. I didnt know anything about these pontiacs when I bought it but there were some nice examples on the hamb. Ive always dug yours PLUM and read everything you posted about it. I think it sits great now and baggin it would look good to, cant say one is better than the other. Hopefully mine will end up as nice as BUZZBOMBs, that the look Im going for.
SWEET! Another '53 Pontiac guy! Woohoo! I dig it for sure! BUZZBOMB's Poncho has been very inspirational for me as well. I'm a long ways off from being even close to where you're even at. Keep us posted!
Thanks for the compliments. As for the disk brakes I used the scarebird kit. You get a high quality made caliper bracket and bearing shim/spacers to use tapered rollers. Then you use caddy calipers and chevy truck rotors to keep the 5on5 bolt pattern. The instructions come with all the part numbers needed to get the parts from the parts store. It all went together real easy. The parts in the kit could be made fairly easy if you had basic machine shop skills and equipment but scarebird has allready figured out the measurements that make everything work so it was easy to buy here and use the fab skills on other parts of the car. Im also going with swing pedal and booster/mc on the firewall.
Looks great! I love the lighted lucite indian head ornament. Definitely need to get one for my 53 pontiac.
drove one back in the 60s. put a 1958 V-8 in it and drove it for years. that old car would fly but brakes just wouldnt get the job done. still have it sitting back in the woods.
this is a little off topic and not to steal your thread or anything but whats the differences between the '53 pontiacs and the '53 chevys? I can tell the grill, rear quarters raises up in the rear and diffrent tail lights, trim is diffrent just wondering because I found a '53 pontiac in good shape around here for $700 and I've been looking for a '53/'54 chevy bel air and thought these pontiacs are pretty close...would any of the chevy parts work on the pontiac like the grille/bumpers/trim..etc
The big difference is the frame. They are built on a completly different frame and none of those related parts interchange. The pontiac has a longer wheelbase and its all in the frontend. The fenders and hood are longer than the chevy. The gl*** is the same so the trim around the windows should swap. The doors are the same and maybe the trunk lid. The grill and bumpers are different and will not bolt on but being so close in body shape I wouldnt think it would be that hard to custom fit one to the other. If you find a Canadian pontiac however that car is straight up a chevy with pontiac trim. Im no expert, just have read everything I can find about these cars.
yeah I thought the front looked longer, do you know how much longer the frontend is than the chevy? thanks for the info I apprecaite it!
I like it a lot. I love the low stance. It's funny how the Pontiacs and Chevys of same years look so compatable on the outside and the underneath are night and day. Chevy has a huge advantage as far as aftermarket and repop. That's what make a Pontiac so much more rare and desirable (in my opinion). It takes a lot of work, research and dedication to be a Poncho. I like what you got going on. Keep the faith! Bil
I'd like to hear more about this build. I just got my 53 Hardtop a week ago, and I'm trying to figure out all of my options.
Been driving this thing all summer to car shows. Got alot of nice comments where ever I went. Now comes the big test, Driving from Seattle to Vegas then over to so. cal and back up the coast. We build these things to drive them and thats what I'm gonna do. This winter it's back in the garage for body, paint and maybe interior.
The General Motor's 1953 Pontiac Parisienne Dream/Concept car shown at the Waldorf-Astoria Motorama in 1953 will be the featured story in the January issue of Car Kulture DeLuxe Magazine, well known photographer shot this car at a Chicago lakefront with a well do***ented story.
