I bought this car last September and decided to build a little brother to the roadster. Gets in your blood I suppose. Drove it home and started planning the journey.Another taildragger?......you bet. I've posted all the pics on photobucket under timebombjohn 3-window chop to archive it for anyone intereted to have a look. We approached this chop differently than most other methods and so far so good. I made a grid on a picture and chopped the picture to getan idea on how much to cut. It worked out to 2 5/8ths in the front and 4 inches in the back. Thanks to Eric Jackson's ideas ,it is coming along great. Here is a sample of the build as it is going. Blown flathead,5 speed,9 inch, and a few other surprises to follow are planned.........Time Bomb John
I'll be watching this thread... I agree with Django though... What you started with was almost too nice to cut up.
The car sat in a garage for close to 30 years before the guy decided to sell it off. I bought it from another guy who bought it on spec. It looked good under all that paint but once we stripped the paint off she revealed her evil. Mind you it wasn't terrible but still needed patch panels all around and lower door panels. Some restorer was going to buy it but was nickel and diming the guy, so I bought it on the spot.Complete and a driver. Phil Asmore did lots of work on it to get running and cleaned it up. I was real happy with the deal. The entire build to date is archived on photobucket. Too many pics to post here, but lots of detail on this unique one off chop. All my research has not come up with anything like this for a cut on these cars. It's hard to explain it, so seeing it is best. When all the metal patch panels were done I had a choice to make...restore it or Kustom...........the decision was obvious It didn't even need floors... Time Bomb John
saw your pics on photobucket,it looks really good cant wait to see what headlight/taillight treatment you´re giving it. i will be watching this!
Hoping to have the rear window in this weekend. We took it out of a sedan and believe it or not the sedan window is only 1/2 an inch smaller than a coupe all around. So there will be no need to chop it. Thanks to Chrisp here on the HAMB for the heads up on that one. Tailights and headlights are coming along nicely. I'll post more pics on photobucket at the ned of every week. Colour choice is still up in the air.....It won't be BLACK...TBJ
