Just got my car back from Ray here on the hamb. The car sits alot lower than I thought it would without any major mods. Thanks again Ray. These are my little girls and me. They were glad to have the car home again.
Very nice looking indeed! I think I have a set of front fender stainless for one of those. What year is yours?lmk,Bill
Got a pic of it aired all the way up? Since I got mine done it goes low enough for the x-frame to hit the ground, and it'll go up WAY higher than it was before. i can get about 4 inches of daylight between the top of my front tire and the fender. How does it ride?
YEAH! Looks great like it is...please don't chop it. Olson ----------- still kicking myself for letting mine go
lookin good! see you got the pic posting figured out. as far as the actual work, it wasn't too bad as far as frame butchery. up front, stone stock suspension with the pockets cut for bag clearance, i fabbed up some locater cups just like the kits for the top mount, that's about it. in back, i replaced the leaf springs with some custom made control arms that use the stock leaf spring mounts on the frame and axle, with a panhard bar added. bags are on top of the axle, not a lot of lift, but plenty for this car. no c-notch! so what you see is max lowness for one of these mopars without major work. probably 1 1/2 to 2 inches clearance not counting the low hanging muffler. it was a fun little project. hope you enjoy it zeus!
No you can drive it the way it sits in those pics. Granted you better be looking out for potholes and speed bumps.
Looks great layed out. Rod n Custom March 05 had these real cool drawings of these cars. I did a real life version. Kinda looks like a Barris build. Carson top, skirts, shaved handles, frenched headlights, 53 Olds caps
Cool.. Do you have pics of the rear suspension set-up??? Got to do my '50 plymouth soon and I like your set up.
sorry, i'm terrible at taking pics, all i got was a couple of overall shots after it was all done! really wasn't much to it, i cut out the floor above the axle, used suicidedoors.com bushings at the front leaf spring mount, built some control arms from tubing and plate, whipped up a panhard bar from scratch, and some simple mounts above the axle for the bags, basically a plate on each side bridging the stock shock crossmember to an added tube crossmember behind the stock one. relocated the shocks to the other side of the stock crossmember.ended up losing a few inches of trunk space above the axle, as well as the front portion of the spare tire well. solution in this case is a delfated spare tire, along with an air hose to plug into the onboard tank. i should point out, even with the limited lift from having the bags right above the axle, it still gets high enough to change a tire without having to unbolt suspension components, just have to deflate the tire, so it could get a little tricky with gangster whites! maybe zeus can stick a camera under the car for ya? speedaddict, dig the photochop! that's actually an idea i bounced off zeus when we were talking about chop possibilities! i like the carson top idea best for chopping one of these, but i don't think zeus' little girls would like not having windows!
I was never a big fan of carson tops until I saw the artist rendering. Make it removeable and his girls can see out of a CONVERTABLE.
Thanks alot guys I was just starting to like the top on my car but that carson top is bad ***. I think the girls could live without windows if the top came off. I know nothing about carson tops so here is my stupid question. Can you still have working side windows with a removeable carson top?
Zues, think of a carson top like a hardtop for a convertible, the windows are still fully functional.
neat pics, cute gal! you still around zues? last i hear cory was slipping a sbc in to make it a driver.
