  1. A builder's description. Thank you. I like the wheels.

Somthing is wrong with the rear end. I have two 40's and neither one of them have the rear wheels pushed forward in the wheel well. Get under the car and do a very CLOSE inspection of everything under there. Looks like somthing is bent or misaligned.

Check the VIN # on the frame to see if it's a 40 Ford frame.

  4. Mine had a "Dago" 4 inch dropped axle with 48 spindles in it when I bought it in Mar 69. ( CA car) When I built the 40 in the early 70s, I used it, reversed the eyes, removed 2 short leaves, and dearched it. I redrilled the hubs/axles to use the Cad wires (15x6) all the way around with 5:60-15s up front and 8:20-15s in back, WW Stones from Coker. Stock rear spring with the top leaf removed. Used 35/36 wishbones with a homebuilt single Heim joint mount up front (stock bones, no mods) to mount the early Chrysler open drive shaft rearend, tube shocks all the way around. Still works great today, have never had any issues.
Pic was taken on a slight incline so doesnt look as low as it is.

I agree Steve ... perfect stance. I have the same combo on my std Tudor. It's a must to use the 16's.

What is your suspension set up? I would like my car to sit like this.
I am just getting ready to tackle lowering mine.

The stance (or lack of) is killing the looks of mine.

Labold, have you ever seen the issue of Rod & Custom where they road test a 40 tudor that looks very similiar to yours? Sept 1962 issue, it has been with me since new and prompted the purchase of my first 40 Tudor in 62. Joe

Never seen that one but will dig through my old mag stash tonight looking for it.

  19. I'm in the middle of lowering my '35 Phaeton. I want the car as low as I can go with stock diff. I flattened my rear x-member, for a 5" drop. I will reverse the eyes and take a leaf or two out to get it low enough and possibly run longer shackles.
For the front I've dropped the exle in my jig, got it to go to a 5 1/4" drop (good for 3" over stock) and I'm reversing and de-arching the main leaf, removing two leafs and will run a 1" longer shackle.
Heres a gooder thread on the subject. Bruces Rod Shop has good ideas and shows some killer cars with greaqt stances of cars hes built.

I'll get some pics up of my car soon....

On my '35 coupe I have a 4" drop axle done by Jordan Graham, a Durant Mono Leaf spring with reversed eyes and I'll be running 5.50's on 16" Wheels. Out back I reversed the eye myself and ordered longer shackles from Tardel. I also plan on only putting every other leaf or so back in when I reassemble.

I'm waiting on my rear to be rebuilt with the 3.54's before I can set her back on the ground again. Excited to say the least.

A little something electrodude whipped up on photo shop to stare at until the job is done.
Looks much better with a stance.
