Has anyone done this? Any advice? I have a '29 dodge and some 34 Ford spindles. This is my first streetrod It looks pretty easy, with a little machining. The only real issue is the king pin angles are different, 5 degrees for the Dodge, 8 for the ford. Drill the king pin holes bigger Shorten the king pin bosses Bend the axle to set the king pin angle Thakns Keith
Is that axle anything like the ones used by Dodge & Plymouth in the '30s? The big tube with the "smile" toward the front? I recently hung some F-100 spindles on one of those and it wasn't too bad-just like you described it.
Are you sure on those measurements? I know on my axle the pin angles were the same. I am using a mid 30's dodge axle though. What type of axle is it tube or beam? If it is tube you might want to look at changing to another style axle either a mid thirties dodge or a ford axle. Just my .02. Eric
Bib, Well I AM posting this question on more than 1 board, but I've never done it before. Dale Not sure what mid 30's axles look like, this one is an I beam, it uses parallel leafs like a truck, not a single leaf like a Ford. I don't see a smile anywhere... CGKid I'm pretty sure the angle is 5 degrees I measured it using my trusty angle finder and both kings measured the same ( but opposite of course) I wish they were the same but I don't think they are Keith
Keith, With it being a I beam axle you might be able to bend it to the inclination you need. The Mid thirties dodge/plymouth axle is a tube axle that has a added dip in the middle of it. You might want to check on another axle set up unless you have access to a shop to get the work done cheap. Eric
I used a 30's mopar axle and put wide five spindles on it. Drilled the kingpin bosses and everything else fit fine.
