I sold one of my favorite cars last week because my arthritis will no longer allow me to get in and out of it easily.
I decided to sell my '32 roadster 10 days ago because when I started it for the first time since last September, it took an honest 5 minutes for me to bend my knees enough to get into it. I sure hated to sell it as it never let me down, whether driving in 100 degree weather or 20 degree weather. It's going to a great guy who's wanted to buy it from me for the past 7 years. It's a bitch getting old. I'll miss it..........Mike

Don't look back - look forward to your next adventure - that's what makes life exciting - get a cool car that is easier on the knees but lights the fire!:)

I can totally see why.......that's a sweet car!

  4. Mike, Jay Leno put it best, you buy the car, you fix & restore it, you drive & enjoy it, then you pass it on to the next guy who will do his own thing to it. Sounds like the guy you sold it to wanted it bad for a long time, so i'am sure it went to a good home. (i always prefer if it my car goes out of town to i don't have to see it often!)
That said, i'am sure there is another cool rod out there, that will suite your current needs!
    Good luck in your search!

Maybe there's a '36 roadster in your future. A little more leg room. Keep looking forward.

OK, so a kickin' 32 is way cool, but there has to be SOMETHING else that you've always wanted to cruise in! A 59 caddy convertible? A slick 55 Chevy? A 1932 Buick streetrod? There has to be SOMETHING out there that's a bit larger that you can see yourself sporting around in.

I'm 64 years old and have gone through many cars and trucks. I've only felt bad about selling one other vehicle and that was my '56 pickup in 1981. Other than that, it was my Dad selling his B-400 and his 10,000 mile '32 phaeton. He owned more than 40 cars during the early 70's. I've never grown that attached...until this car. I have others to drive but this one was one of my favorites.

Cool you passed it on to a good home, but I hope you build something else. You have a great eye for details.

Hi Mike. Greetings from a fellow Michigander. I feel for ya. That certainly is a nice roadster. And you're not the only one. I had to sell my '37 Chevy coupe this weekend because of financial issues. I put four cars up for sale, praying that the others would sell before the '37, but wouldn't you know it...the most desirable to me (the '37) was also the most desirable to others. Oh well. Like you, I have others, but nothin' will replace the coupe. Shoot...it was an ongoing project, and I didn't even get to drive it on the road...only around the farm some. AAARRGGHH! The bright side is...we get to stay on the farm. Good luck to you. - Rick

Mike, not only do you have remorse, but I also think you're giving out sympathy pains. I've got the very same problem with my deuce 5 window. I'm just finishing up the re-do, trying to get ready for some of the spring and early summer activities, but it looks like I'm going to have to let mine go too for the very same reasons.

I can still get around in the old codger 52 Olds 98 though. I just hope I don't have to get upside down and backwards to do anything under the dash of it, cause that's probably where the EMT's will find me later on.

Want to race your Scooter Store scooter with me?

As a long term 1932 Ford roadster owner ... I understand your situation. :)

I dread the time ... when I will need to sell mine ...

I cranked my 32 Roadster up the other day for the first time since November 20,2009

Since I have the 32 3W ... I rarely even touch the roadster

Damn mike, I really feel for you. After getting my knees replaced this last year I've actually given myself better access to my hot rods. Now all I have to do is loose some weight (steering wheel clearance:)). I had hoped to get down to see your cars one of these days and the roadster was at the top of the list. Maybe you can take me for a spin in the vicky (second on the list) and we can go visit Al Bergler at his shop.

Just think how bad you would have missed it if you didn't have all the others around too....

Frank, just let me know when you want to visit. I'll take you out back to my storage building and show you all of the cars and parts. I don't want a garage crawl though as there's only been about 4 guys I've shown the stuff to.Just bring your best, trustworthy, buddy with you. I'll take you to al's after your visit............Mike

That has to be one of the prettier car's I have seen on here. It just suits my taste perfectly. If I had one I would want to build it just like that. I can see how you would miss it.

A good drunken night at a strip club can cure just about anything. I'M glad you found it a happy home. Maybe you can get some visitation rights?

Whoa...... there guys, I am 64 years old also, and believe me your selling your pride and joys for the wrong reason, and I will be damned if I will sell one of my rods because one of the Ritus boys is beatin' on me. For the last 3 years not only could I not kneel, squat or double my legs, nor walk down stairs straight. But know I can do most anything as I just got my new knees about 3 months ago and you will not believe the difference it makes. So, please don't use art for an excuse, it can be overhauled. I feel like a youngster again.

New knees would be a nice option. Unfortunately a quadruple by-pass knocked me on my ass as well. Like I said, I'm not without nice cars to drive, I just liked that car a lot.... P.S.....good for you and your new knees.Your suicide doors help as well.
