HELP! Does anyone out there know if an 88 Ford 5.0 is supposed to have a crankshaft oil slinger? my rebuild book says to put one on, but I can't find one in my pile of parts...can't remember if I took one off or not. (it's been torn down for a while) any info would be appreciated. thanks, Bob

Yes, it should have had one, but probably not the fuel pump essentric.

**edit** I just looked through the factory books and it does not show one.

No it never had one and Ford deleted them from most all their motors long before 88.

Nope. I've rebuilt a lot of 5.0/302s and never saw one on a late model motor.

Ditto! I tore down a low milage stock 1988 5.0L HO motor and it didn't have one.

I talked to Edlebrock about a cam for my older 302. They said to throw the slinger away. I did and never had any problems.

No such thing as a slinger. Was it the cam eccentric?

no. it's a baffle-type piece that goes over the snout of the crank. they show it inthe book, but mine didn't have one.

They really weren't a true slinger, more of a baffle to help the seal.I tore down an unmolested 66,289 that didn't have one so.... , I still use them, just my prefferance. ROY.
