I'm working with a '79 Cad carb (17059230). It has front and rear pull-offs and I was wondering if I can convert to just the front only, preferably the plastic one. I have lots of parts on hand and it looks doable, but I'm probably walking into a trap. Also I want to convert to the accelerator pump link that has the clip. I have carbs going back to 1970 and they all have the zig-zag one. What carb would have the other style? Ditto for the choke rod. The early carbs I have that have the clip-secured choke link are all too long for the late carb. Is there one that would work? Thanks
You can get by with one pull off, but you have to leave the one that is tied into the secondary air valve. I don't know which one it is on that carb, probably secondary. Why don't you modify and drill the acc. pump & choke linkage you have? It would be easier than finding the early model stuff. Larry T
Modifying an emmissions era QJ is going to be problematic. The rods and jets are not interchangable with the early carbs, and they are calibrated to use egr and lean burn fuel curves.
I actually prefer the late carbs because of APT and electric choke. I've got the idle circuits modified, made some custom mixture screws, and got the rods, jets and spring that I want. Secondary rods do interchange, got CE's from a '70 Eldo. Just trying to make final tuning a little easier.
