  1. Ain't it about a week early for April Fools Day?

Well don't keep us in suspense, tell us how Shana Felt? Or didn't you make it to first base. You have to wonder if she married someone eventually just to change her name...

"... he said he would consider given me some of his stuff, if i really wanted it..."

I don't think any of the stuff would be there if your friend was just in it for the money.

I've given stuff to people who say they need stuff for a project or just because they like it. If they turn around and sell it to the first person that makes them an offer on it, that's usually the last help they get from me.

If he says he's giving it to you to sell fine, but it's not always about the bucks.

I am ashamed at most of the replies to tis thread. Go back and look at the stuff on those shelves, there isn't a speck of dust on any of it! That stuff is lovingly stored and cared for. All you 'jump-on-it-quick money makers' make me sick. This site is better than that!
You need to go back and get the guys story. let him share his experiences and come back and share it with us. Those shelves are history, they have earned the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

  13. Ahhh, cut Holeshot some slack, he's ok in my book.

Now about the goods, sell a kidney and take a loan out on your spleen, but get ahold of those parts!

Thanks for saying this, you beat me to it. I'd think that there were stories for all the parts. I bet that there is more than "I bought this because I figured I could sell it for big $$$ some day" from the owner. I guess I have a strange way of looking at it. I see it not as just the parts but the experiences and the knowledge and the skills the owner probably has (if he's an older guy who "was there back when") that should be saved as well. Noticed the projects that document the stories of WWII vets over the past few years, as people realized that we're losing them and their stories? We need that info to go with the old parts.

Don't just point to your car later and say look at this old manifold. Point and say this manifold is from '47, you can see how they made XXX changes right here, 'cause that was the hot ticket back in '51 when the second owner had it on his XXXX car. It hasn't been run since '62 because they found out that XXX worked better.

Of course I could be crazy, so feel free to ignore all of this. :)

  23. Exactly what I was thinking. Every old car or part has a story to go with it. If you are really into this, it's not about how much "easy" money you can make off of it! I guess that's why I enjoy having my old cars and parts instead of selling them to make "big money".

A lot of neat old parts but the Vintage Speed y carb adapter I thought was a newer part from a recent company. That would lead me to believe that this guy is still collecting. Not some stash a guy is done with.Just my thoughts.

That is exactly why some of the old guys who have great stashes of stuff won't let them go. They have a story for every part they have collected over the years. If they wanted to make money on the stuff they've hoarded, they'd do it. Young guys bitch about the old timers that hoard stuff, and say they're going to build it some day. most of those old guys "read" people just fine, and know when some punk is looking to lowball them on something just to make a buck!

I've been helped out by old guys who've had stuff sitting in their garages over the years. And, I've helped out a few too. But, there are those who I've helped and then they've sold what I gave 'em . Now, a person has to be pretty upright to get anything outta me. If I wanted to sell what I have for big bucks, I could. I decide what I get to do with it up until the time I croak. Make sure you treat that ol boy
with some respect-don't get dollar signs for eyes.

Well that was easy. I sent a message to an old friend in San Luis Obispo and he verified those pieces and was over to his place last Saturday. My friend has a wall of flathead intakes and collects the unusual ones.

Don't worry, that old boy is in the loop of things and knows what his shit is worth!

  29. That describes it perfectly! I LOOOOVE stuff, especially cars and trucks, that look like they could tell a story. Anyone can restore and repaint something to "like new" condition, but it's the battle scars from the time that you got a scratch at the cruise night, and the hundreds of rock chips on the quarter panels from the cool drives out in the country or to get a burger with your buddies...
