AV8 Front lower shock mount ideas?

It's time for me to mount the front shocks on my 29 Roadster AV8. I'm going the tube shock route with modified F1 upper mounts. I'm now trying to decide how to do the lower mount and am interested in what you guys have come up with. I'm not a fan of the bolt on brackets that many guys use. I like the weld-on mount that was used on the B/T roadster. If I had a lathe, I'd probably go that route, but I don't and I've not been able to locate a ready-made threaded spacer like that anywhere. Anybody else got a novel idea that you'd be willing to share? How about a boss welded to the bottom of the axle? It could be just a hollow tube running fore/aft that an off-t******lf shock mount would bolt to. If you look at an F1 pickup factory mount, it has a boss cast into the axle sort of like what I'm trying to describe. I'd appreciate any ideas, especially photos.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Get a pair of bolt on mounts (or f-1).... saw them off and weld them to the face of the axle infront of the perch pin holes....

Try the lower rear shock studs from So-Cal. They might go thru your axle or weld on?

That's one of the ideas on my list and maybe, since it's so simple, I should just do that. I'm just mocking the parts up now but it looked to me like I would need to move the shock mount forward some so that the shock does not hit the spring shackle. That's were the spacer comes in. In the B/T book, they say they used the threaded spacer so they could change the shock mount if it gets damaged. I'm not so worried about that.

I've seem older, original hotrods where they just drilled through the axle outboard of the perch and bolted on a mount. I think a mount welded to the bottom of the axle would be good because it gets you a little more spacing for the shock length. That's the one good thing about the bolt on lower mount. It gets the mount lower and more outboard. I just don't like the idea of using such a clearly not original hotrod part.

This obviously doesn't show much detail... but this my car with F-1 lower mounts welded to the front of the axle with modified upper mounts bolted to the frame.

It would sure be fun to get our pair of #44's together, they are damn near twins.

That looks neat and clean. I have a set of F1 studs around, if I can just remember where I put them! How close does the shock tube come to the spring shackle? Mine will hit the grease zerk if I'm not careful.
