You should buy the new "Hot Rod Deluxe" mag. It has some very interesting photos of different engines built in the the 50s. There is also a article on the old San Fernando drag strip which was the inspiration for Jan & Deans "Drag City".

Found this whilst searching for Y-Block info.

"Weslake Ford Y-block engine built by British racing and aircraft engine company. According to "Speedy" Bill Smith of Speedway Motors (who has one of the few know to exist on display in his museum), features aluminum heads with "Industria Argentina" cast onto them."

Possibly designed for F1. I love it!

  15. We have one of the Weslake Y-block engines in our shed.
Came out of a single seat racer years ago.
We thought it was a bigger inch motor but it measured to 2.9 litres.

Has many features are similar to the bigger Weslake motors but on close inspection nothing is the same.
The heads do have the legend Industria Argentina cast into them.
Until now we couldn't identify it so it was pushed under a bench and left there...

Thanks guys, I may get excited about doing something with it now.

  16. Here is a pic of my little 2.5 Daimler Hemi just put together the extractors and fitted to the engine.

1910 Maytag. Yes, they made cars. Also gasoline engines for washing machines.

I knew about the Ford aircooled X-8; I just saw a Ford water cooled X-8 engine in the Curtis Air Museum in NY..I didn't think any X-8's still existed; it was pretty large at about three feet accross, head to head..As usual I had no camera..

Now this is an interesting thread! Pictures are great but what would be REALLY interesting is to know the details, like what years a certain engine was produced or the identifying features, what vehicles would have originally had that engine, etc. If it's a non-production or speciality engine then a little background on it would be nice. I am surprised at how many of these engines I can't identify by looking at the photos. Good stuff! Would like to learn more.
