I was just reading the "Low Tide" thread where these guys in Washington State found an old car buried in a river bed. It got me to thinking about a mystery I had read about some years ago where a husband and wife had left their two young boys at home to go shopping, drove off in their 1927 Chevrolet, and never returned home. At the time (late 1920's) some had speculated that they may have accidentally driven into the lake, but other more unsavory rumors also swirled and the two orphaned boys were forced to grow up not knowing why their parents had "abandoned" them. It has been years since I read anything about it, at the time it was still an unsolved mystery. I just Googled the story and found out how it ended....

and another article which talks about what became of the boys ....pretty sad.

  4. ..so what about the 2 Model A's they found first, looking for the '27 Chevy?

Strange, I was just at Crescent Lake this summer, I have friends that live in Se****, and we hiked to a really nice waterfall near there.

It's hard to say that this stuff is ON Topic for the HAMB, but it's a profound sense of respect for history that the HAMB even exists. I'll accept a 1927 Chevrolet as a common thread... Great story. Thanks for bringing it!

Thanks for posting. Sad but a good read.
Maybe the HAMB needs an off topic place to post these kind of stories??

very interesting article. my folks live in Port Angeles and this has been a ongoing story of much interest. neat to see some resolution for the families that have waited for so long. on a side note, this is a wild and potentionally dangerous part of the country. please use common sense and fer cryin out loud, don't depend on mapquest et al for directions.

The saddest part is the boys never knowing for sure what happended to their parents. Just think if you lived out your whole life and the last day still didn't know for sure if they had abandoned you or met with some other fate. Fasinating story, wonder if there is enough materiel to write a book?

  28. Sad the sons never knew their parents fate. Great article, '27 Chevs only had rear brakes, I'd say the brakes failed.
