  1. Singer Johnny Maestro of the rock-and-roll and doo-wop band The Brooklyn Bridge has died.

Original band member Les Cauchi says Maestro died late Wednesday in Florida. Maestro was 70 and had been battling cancer. His last residence was in Cape Coral, Fla.

Maestro begin his career in the 1950s with The Crests, whose hits included "16 Candles."

He later joined The Brooklyn Bridge, which has continued to perform. Cauchi said the group performed its hit, "The Worst That Could Happen," on the Ed Sullivan Show. Other well-known songs include "Blessed is the Rain" and "You'll Never Walk Alone."

He's gonna' be missed, like so many others of the era we have lost recently. I've heard him perform many times over the years and never a disappointment. Rest in peace old friend.

NO FRICKIN WAY! Oh man, this ****s. I've seen him many times, and I think even last summer if I recall correctly. He always put on a great show. Lots of the doo wop singers that still tour are long past their prime and need to hang it up, but Johnny was still able to sing with the best of em.

What a shame, he'll be missed for sure. His work with the Crests was outstanding

I met him once in the '90's when Brooklyn Bridge performed at a local venue and the manager asked us to bring some "DooWop" cars as she put it to display before the show. We got in for free.
He was a nice gentleman and they performed some of his Crests hits.

He had a magic voice, and was as good in his later years as when he was young

My wife and I just saw him in concert this past February along with other acts from the 50's and 60's. It was a great show and he will be missed.

I am really saddened. He was such a huge part of my youth with the Crests and Brooklin Bridge. I never saw him in person but really enjoyed his performances on the PBS Doo-Wop shows. His high pitched voice had stood the test of time.

I saw him with the Crests at a show in Ct, late '50's. They were doing 2 shows that night, and I went to the first one. We left out the side door, and they were having having smoke in the alley. Talked a little, been a fan ever since. R.I.P.

Damn! He could still hit the notes, too! At the end of "16 Candles"..."for I love you.......sooooooooooooo!" A great entertainer whose music had an impact on many of our lives. He will be missed.

I heard that in 68 when the JM and the Brooklyn bridge formed there was a bit of controversey. Mgmt had stated that there was a " LOT ' of crazy bands and music going on at that time. They were unsure as to wether they could " sell him " and one of the music companies guys said " It would be easier to sell the Brooklyn Bridge then you guys ". The rest is history !!
