Thanks for sharing the pictures. I can't even imagine how strange it would be to be a hot rodder in a foreign land.

  4. It's the same but with less parts and and often much less culture :(

But when you want, all is possible :

is this a real "junkyard" ou une décharge ?
Un environnement exquis pour prendre des photos ! !
    C' est où ?
    "nearly" the same ... but social acceptance is a little more tricky;
    there's no "tradition" as such.
The mandatory technical control -in fact a subjugation - is also a deceleration of the possibilities.

Amazing to see cars so rotten the individual panels fall off.

  14. It's a real junkyard, all cars arrived there while running, undamaged and with very few miles.
C'est dans les ardennes belges mais je n'ai pas l'adresse exacte, j'y suis allé avec un pote.

Initially I though all the cars were painted green.... then I looked again. Never saw so much green growing ON cars, usually through them. Cool find.

  17. All of those cars stuffed up that ravine reminds me of every "end of the world" movie I have ever seen. Every body trying to leave at once.....

  19. good god! i thought we had rust in texas

  20. I have been there about 15 times from 1992 to 2007 (when the owner died) and it's a real cool place with mostly US cars from 1946 to 1956.
Mr.Contant (the owner) was in about 85 when he died and he was till his dead everyday working in his nearby garage.
Bought a lot of stuff from him for few money.
Amazed this place is still there and not cleared

  21. Like the pic of the trailer full of rear axles. Strange that no other part hunters had ever taken the time to remove them. You guys sure got stuck into it. Why do you have the firewall reversed on the A roadster ? You know what, you must have bought that of me at the swap-meet near London U.K. March 2009. Same for the green cowl in the background.

    Attached Files:

  22. It was very difficult to identify the dislocated cars and it was enormously work with generator and many tools.
The parts were buried in the ground so it was necessary to cut out all bodies and then to cut out frames to be able to dig and remove them from there.

For the roadster firewall, it was to recess it for the inline six but this project was sold.

For the green cowl, here is the project now (but sorry for the bad pic) :

Great photos, thank you for posting them. They remind me of the Bugatti collection that was in Europe, with all the cars stored outside covered in moss amid overgrown trees, I think it was an Automibile Quarterly feature.

There was a similar place in swiss till not long ago, it was all auctioned end of last year,
same problem w/ rust though, well maybe a little less. Belgium must be humidity realm!
I dont think ive ever seen so much rot all togheter!

BTW, why so many US cars? Its not like they where ever inported in quantities back then!

There was a US military base nearby and Mr Contant bought his cars from service man going back to the states or cars which have been in accidents. I bought a front and rear bench seat for a 1959 Ford which still had plastic on it. Car had about 13K mi on it when it got to the wrecking yard

The hotrodding spirit obviously lives everywhere in the world! MadMath you have my respect for overcoming the environment and government regulations to build your car your own way! Cool thread. But man! Those pine needles are hard on sheet metal, arn't they?

Of course, stupid question! Asked b4 connectin brain to fingers!:D
    Same story everywhere in EU!
The eral question should be why were they all left to rot (domestics included) instead of bein dragged out and fixed long ago?

  30. I have been in 30 US states and visited many junkyards / salvageyards in all over the US but i never found cars rusted so bad as this yard in Belgium.
I have been here about 15 times and scored lots of parts quit cheap and the deceased owner was a friendly guy.
BTW the only prewar car as i remember was a completely rotten Ford Model AA wrecker
